Hi babybob .... welcome to Mumsnet ... Smile
Just wanted to agree with Tiktok and the others that if anyone tries to tell you that you need to top up your baby with formula just cos she is big then tell them to take a hike.
My DD was 10lbs 10oz at birth and I had to fight the midwife on the very first night in the hospital as she was going to give DD a bottle.
I breastfed DD very successfully and had loads of milk until she was just over 9 months old and she has always been a big bouncing fat roly poly!! Grin. The key is to work at establishing your supply for the first few weeks. All babies go through fussy stages and all too often breastfeeding mums assume they are not producing enough milk and so top up and then you will be on the downward slope to giving up (that is what happened to me with my first baby Sad). Look at all the signs, not just fussiness ... is your baby happy/healthy/putting on some weight/producing lots of wet and dirty nappies? If so, she will be getting enough milk.

I had to make myself trust my body to do its job of producing enough milk. As soon as I did that I relaxed about it all.
Smile

PS ... just to clarify ... My milk didn't just stop at 9 months ... I could have carried on for longer but it was the right time for us to stop then ...

Yes heavenly ghost, I've never understood whgy anyone would find that a logical and acceptable statement! It goes completely against the rules of supply and demand!
If peoplecould just remember the mantra 'the more s/he sucks, the more s/he'll get, most 'problems' would be sorted out.

Also why wear yourself out youself with the hassles of doing both?!

And my 22 week old ds is massive too!

sharon2133 · 12/12/2004 21:08

I started expressing at 2 weeks as I was so exhausted just feeding by myself through the night. Baby took the breast milk in a bottle without any problems. I got most milk first thing in the morning. Breast shells were good aswell.

Fantastic Babybob! How did your early night go? Plans and babies often don't mix I've found!!

moondog · 14/12/2004 09:25

Sounds v encouraging babybob! Hope you got a bit of rest. (You're up early hunker....)

xmashampermunker · 14/12/2004 10:55

Always up by now - DS makes sure of that! Sadly my plans to go to bed early rarely work (hence my post below...!). Still, at least it was writing Xmas cards that kept me up last night, not MN! Just should've done them sooner

babybob · 14/12/2004 20:05
