If you were/are breastfeeding a toddler, what did you call it?

ds is 13 months and starting to get the hang of words. we call breastmilk "boobie milk" or "boobie juice" (blame dh for that one) but a few weeks ago my LLL leader asked how i'd feel in Tesco in a year's time with him shouting "BOOOOBIE NOW MAMA!!"

he does sign for milk sometimes, but i'm wondering if there are any acceptable words i can use other than "milk", because i want to distinguish between cow's milk and breastmilk.

DS2 calls it 'na na', but then he always has - it's the word he came up with for it.

How about mummmy (or whatever he calls you) milk?

DD2 called it "booboo" but was pretty discreet about asking for it. My friends children call it "mummy milk" but she still gets "I want Mummy milk now".

i wondered if "mama milk" would be too much for him to get his little head round though? i was wondering about a short, one syllable word...

mama milk here. ds1 (2.9) is delightful: 'Can I have some mama milk, please?'

i am not feeding a toddler, but i know a few people who are and all their children have their own words for it, seems to be quite common,.
a few off the top of my head are "bahs" "boo-boo" and "mmm mmm's"

I think the yelling-head-off-in-Tesco thing is at least partly down to the child's disposition. DS2 wil say 'na na, na na, na na' very insistently, but he will also take the self-service route and plunge his hand down my front until he is elbow-deep in my cleavage. I have only just (he's just had his 3rd birthday) trained him to stop doing this in public.

I can understand that you don't want your LO yelling 'boobie', tho.

Kate - how did you stop her doing it? to be fair, ds is very good about pulling my top up when we're out in public - we don't breastfeed very much when we're out and about, although if we're at home he does do the old "drive-by nursing" (and i'm sure those of you nursing toddlers will know what i mean by that! )

I stopped feeding DD1 before she could talk bt when I feed DD2 she calls it 'Beeboo' as she can't say Boobie, but I love Beeboo, it doesn't sound like BFing but is quite distinct.

(As in, 'DD2 needs Beeboo now mummy, now, give her Beeboo please, now , no now, Beeeeeeeeboooooooooo....etc)

I've always said just 'milk' to DS for bf (he's 18 months now). To differentiate I refer to cows milk as 'moo milk' or 'milk in a cup'.

Interestingly, when he does 'ask' for bf he tends to stick his tongue out and make a 'ssss' noise, no idea where that came from , this is combined with tugging at my top. And he generally doesn't ask for it when we're out as he's too busy charging around like a loon.

if we're out and ds wants a bf he headbutts me like a goat. very cute

My 18 month old DD either :-

: says 'milk' (we don't give her cows milk so no confusion for us)
: signs 'milk'
: throws herself on my lap in a nursing position (usually when she is super tired)

My ds just says milk too. Or rather, 'muk. muk. muk. MUK. Peeeeeaaaase?'

Cows' milk is 'cup. muk'

do you think i could train him to call it Optimus Prime? So much cooler to have child bellowing OPTIMUS PRIME MAMA!!!

I call it milk. Ds calls it 'nah-noo' or 'nin'.
