One breast leaking - can I do anything

Just that really. One breast seems to understand how to hold it in, the other not. Even with pads and understanding when it’s likely to happen it’s still somehow soaking things and driving me mad. I’m wondering if supply builds in each breast differently and whether, if I just feed from the other side today for example (the other will leak long before I’m uncomfortable) will the leaky side ease up its supply a bit and then I can go back to both sides with it a bit calmed down?

When you feel the tingle of the let down start if you push the heal of your hand into the nipple it should stop the flow.

How long have you been feeding for? It took probably until month 4 for me to stop leaking from the free side when I fed. Your supply evens out around then but I know women who have found it took longer than that. I'd wear a shell or haaka when feeding and collect the leaking milk. You can also press the nipple when you feel a let down start to stop the flow. I found I had a massive overproduction in one side and the other was just meh! I fed more often on the 'weaker' side and it evened out so if you're noticing a big difference you could try that?

My second baby is 6 months and I still get a bit of milk leaking on the side I'm not feeding on. Just wear a pad or shell, it does stop eventually.

It’s just the one side that does it but it’s not just when I’m feeding. Unfortunately I can’t always feel the let down coming on that side. I think I will try prioritising the other side for a few days in the hope it just reduces a bit. It’s only been 5 weeks so far so I know it’s likely to improve but I think it’s so much right now it will likely still be a problem. One way or another I just seem to end up covered in leaked milk every day at the moment.

Another option is the lilypadz breastpads they are silicon and work the same way of pushing in. I leaked a lot and found they helped.

Thank you I’ll try that. I’m keen to try and reduce the flow in this breast also because sometimes DD coughs or gets fed up with the fast let down. I know it’ll improve with time but I hate seeing her so frustrated and upset.

You could hand express that side before giving it to her. I found an open glass easy to catch and then you can save that for later if you like. Not much use out of the house but ok if on the lounge.
