8mo old DD keeps biting me and today drew blood. How can I stop her

ouch ouch ouch.

dd keeps biting me. It makes me go

She's just done it again and has actually drawn blood . I tried to unlatch her with my finger and she just chowed down harder.

When I finally got her off, I put her on the floor facing away from me and she howled so I think she knew she'd done something wrong (or maybe she just doesn't like the taste of blood ).

This has happened at least twice a day for the last week, and I take her off and face her away from me each time, but the message doesn't seem to be getting through.

I've finally got rid of my recurrent thrush and was just starting to think that this BFing lark is not so bad after all, and now this. Feeling a bit about it all, as I don't want to stop, but feel it's only going to get worse when she gets her top two teeth as well

ouch bump
this happened to me (no blood ) but only lasted a couple of feeds
lanisoh for healing, bonjela for gums in meantime?
poor you

PotPourri · 19/02/2008 12:53

Poor you. Like polar bear says, try bonjela for her gums. She might be having pains, made worse by the sucking. Might be worth getting some gel filled teethers that can go in the fridge adn give her that when she is first looking for a feed. taht should cool her gums then you can feed her if she still wants (might have been for comfort in teh first place - fine normally, but not if that involves biting you!)

Good luck

LardyMardyDaisyBoo · 19/02/2008 14:13

oh, thanks; I hadn't thought that it might actually be sore for her when sucking

I've got a gell filled teether and it's in the fridge right now. Am off out to the chemist for bonjela as well as I'm out of teething granules which i normally use.

I think the teething granules work best between meals for some reason.

ouch
also had this with dd, the 2 ds' weren't half as bad for this
with ds1 and ds2, I could just unlatch them quickly with finger or pressing their noses into my ample busom and then put them on floor calmly and quietly and said 'no'
this had precisely zero effect on dd who has a vicious set of gnashers
I had to watch her like a hawk, she tends to bite when I let her feed when she's not all that hungry so I stopped offering feeds quite so often as well (she usually snacks every 2 hours or so), then wrestle her off. tbh it was pretty bad for about 2 weeks then she just stopped doing it. she was teething and once that stopped, no probs. so hang on in there

thanks morocco....the teething thing is probably something to do with it. I've been taking her off when she seems to be just chomping rather than sucking and we've had no repeat of yesterday thanfully.

and the wonder that is lansinoh has healed my nipple up already!

Both DC did this but fortunately I was able to nip it in the bud and it only took one or two occasions for them to get the message.
I would immediately unlatch them and tap them firmly on the top lip saying NO BITING very sternly and put them down without making eye contact whilst they were obviously upset.
After a couple of minutes I would pick them up and offer the breast repeating NO BITING very sternly as they latched on.

LardyMardyDaisyBoo · 20/02/2008 19:51

she seems to be having a bit of earache today, so that might be a factor. She hasn't bitten me at all today but has started to nibble, so I took her off quickly. i'm thinking it might also be her (quaint ) way of telling me that she's done!

a quick update.....she woke up with a new tooth this morning.

Looks like it was the teeth; i'll be more alert to it when the next one comes in!
