breast refusal

Can anyone suggests what to do.. I have been breast feeding for 3 months, with an night bottle of either formular or expressed milk. Recently my DS has started refusing the breast and screams till I give in and give a bottle. It's so hard not to as he has such willpower and screams for over an hour. It's now got to the point he has refused all breast feeds today and when he is held in the position for breast feeding (just to hold him, not to feed him) he screams! Help..should I stop all bottles and sit out the screaming?

no answers here but just wanted to bump your message. hopefully some of the lovely feeding experts can help............

have you tried feeding in a different position? maybe he is uncomfortable for some reason - an undetected reflux-y thing or maybe ear infection that makes it uncomfortable to lie this way?

afaik babies this young do not self wean, which should mean that you two can potentially work through this.

hopefully an expert will be along shortly to advise.

also have you contacted any of the breastfeeding helplines? you can find them here

my ds did that! It turns out he had a poorly ear! Will search for tik tok for you. Btw try changing position it may be as simple as that. It may not. Off to find tik tok

Cold? Teething? Ear infection? Just a bit moody It could be all sorts of things and my DD did this several times (still does at 17m!).

Please don't think it is the end - there should be a reason for it. I also gave the odd bottle - not every night but a few times a week at this age (we need a break sometimes ) and it helped her accept one more frequently later when I had to go back to work.

I found Kellymom a great resource but I would also recommend you pop down to the GP in the Morning to check him over. I hope he has a good nights sleep.
