What do you do with your toddler when you're breast feeding...?

My 26 month toddler is now a TV addict, which pains me since we used to be so active and busy and tele was the last thing we used to do...but now I have a 3 month baby who feeds for half an hour every 2 to 2 and a half hours and toddler either has tele on or tries to climb all over me and baby. Read somewhere we should all cuddle up and read a book, but who ever suggested that must have 2 sets of arms in the first place, plus a toddler that sits still rather than one that wriggles like an eel on speed (with a risk of foot to the baby's head) What do others do...? Perhaps I just need to wean him off it at a later date?

I used to put my toddler in her highchair with some food (if it was a mealtime) or an activity - pens, playdo etc if not.

My reportoire includes-

  • sticker books (those Cbeebies magazines are excellent as they always include lots of stickers)- i have learnt to unpeel stickers one-handed;
  • looking at the pictures and little videos on my phone, which she likes as they are mostly of her;
  • i spy, with colours instead of letters
  • jigsaws;
  • put on a cd and encourage her to dance
  • and then back to the old faithful telly!

There are good ideas here, but don't feel too bad about the TV. The very frequent feeding stage won't last forever and when it warms up you will be outside more and the weaning-off TV will happen naturally.

kippered, you could be me! I'm not feeling guilty about the amount of TV at the mo,it's not at every feed and whe I need to stick the tv on then it's got to the point where anything to keep DS1 entertained for half hour while I feed is fine as far as I'm concerned and alark is right, you'll be able to wean them off when you need to.
