Breastfeeding going well, but I'm endlessly leaking!

Help! I have a DD who is 10 days old. Breastfeeding is going great, I'm pumping and she's taking well to boob and bottle. However I am always leaking.

I've got a hakka pump which I use when I'm feeding, but I want to know if finding milk stains on my top and in my bra is normal? Should I be wearing pads or milk collectors?

Yes, get some pads - it will settle down!

Congratulations!

Congratulations! Yes definitely you need to wear breast pads - nobody told me this when my first was born and my mattress was drenched! Glad feeding is going well

I had to wear pads every day for literally years. The boots washable ones are comfier than the disposable ones.

Congratulations ☺️

I'm still having to wear pads at 6 months pp. I find lansinoh most reliable/absorbent. The reusables didn't do so much for me.

Congrats!!! Yes breast pads are life savers in the first few months and what you're describing is totally normal. I think I stopped needing them around month 3 when my supply evened out but I'd still have the odd leak after a shower etc. I really liked the lanosin ones, I found they stuck better in my bra and held their shape better been feeds. Just try a few different types until you get one you like. Some I found kept moving down and just ended up scrumpled up under the breast instead of covering the nipple.

Thanks so much everyone!!! I have a DS who is 6 and I quit BF after 7 days, but DD and the Elvie pump have both been great!

I'll grab some pads. I'm quite a big boobed lass, should I be wearing a crop top in bed at night?

I feel like such an idiot but I'm sick of being drenched in milk!!!

I got some boots ones and yes, they keep vanishing in my bra!!!

I'm also giant of Nork and plentiful of milk.

-as has been said, leaking usually reduces over time. I've found it's reduced significantly with each baby, too. Leaked for 6 months with first, and barely a week with third.

-reusable breast pads have worked so much better for me. The disposable ones are too small, they don't stay in place, they get soaked far too quickly and they end up sticking to nipple rather than bra.

  • if pads aren't working well enough at night, put a towel on top of your sheets.
ChildcareIsBroken · 04/04/2023 00:44

Congratulations! That's great it's all going well.
As PPs said it's normal and usually will settle as the baby grows, but be careful with sing both pump and haakaa. If you attach haakaa with every feed that's a lot of pumping. So unless your baby drinks all the pumped milk, you'll be producing way more than your baby needs.

I used to cut super sanitary towels in half and put them in my bra!

A crop top in bed is perfect for holding the pads in place, just make sure its not too tight or you could risk a blocked duct

RebeccaCloud9 · 04/04/2023 01:47

Big reusable pads, I got mine from Amazon. I tried all sorts of disposable ones with my first baby but discovering reusables was game changing. So so much more comfortable and effective.

Get a stretchy crop top for night times, and a good feeding bra for day times.
