Hi all. Some of you maybe have seen my 101 threads regarding my little one and our very bumpy breastfeeding journey. She is 19 weeks now.
Up until recently she was EXTREMELY difficult to feed- she would pull off, scream, latch back on, gasp and splutter, etc. It was very on and off though, some days she would be fine and night feeds absolutely no issues. We saw a paediatric consultant as well as a paediatric allergist and both agreed that they wouldn't advise putting her on reflux meds as she had already had antibiotics at birth and introducing reflux meds would just set her gut back in repopulating her gut flora.
DD was diagnosed with mild-moderate laryngomalacia at birth. Turns out the reason she kept pulling off etc was because of a cold and mucus she couldn't clear. Everytime she was latching on, she was struggling to breathe. Thankfully she's over the cold so there's no more screaming at my boobs anymore.
Onto my CURRENT issue. She is on me ALL THE TIME. She won't settle for naps, she doesn't want to be put down and her latch is rubbish (TT already dealt with at 6 weeks). It's been like this for a couple of weeks. I got concerned so had her weighed but she's gaining weight fine and following her line and pooping and peeing fine as well.
We saw a lady who does baby massage and she said to me that her jaw muscles have a lot of tension and appear weak, so she's getting tired before she can get full. She advised me to top DD up with formula after each feed until DD is onto solids (been advised to wean early but paeds for reflux). Unfortunately she won't take a bottle despite lots of different methods we've tried.
Her feeds now are basically a couple of sucks, then can't be bothered. I put her down and 1 minute later she's whining again. ALL DAY. I honestly can't keep count of how many times I feed her. Her night sleep has also gone out of the window. I have a toddler who's getting the worst of me because I really cannot leave 19 week old DD for more than a couple of minutes. It's like she's not hangry enough to take a full feed in one go but also never completely full?
Really not sure what's going on and I wish I'd just bottle fed from the beginning. If anyone's been through similar, I'd appreciate any tips. I took her to the cranial osteopath today who said it seems like she might be teething...but can it really be this constant??? I only worry because when my eldest was constantly on me it was actually because she wasn't getting enough milk and didn't gain weight. We ended up combi feeding.
Please helppp!!!!
