How frequent do you breastfeed through the night

Hi all
So… my DS is almost 7m old and has been EBF since birth.
I introduced solids just before he turned 6m as he was ready.
I started with breakfast and afternoon tea and more recently upped this to 3 meals a day, breakfast, lunch and dinner around 4-4.30pm.
Im still BF on demand inbetween this.

He has settled into a 6-6 ish routine. Although he is still waking frequently through the night for feeds. He goes approx 2hrs. Sometimes it could be an hour and Rarely 2.5hrs.
Patting, sushing and rocking doesn’t work. Neither does popping his dummy back in. He will only settle after a feed and on the boob

i thought by this age he would be going longer through the night?
My question is how frequently do your babes wake through the night for feeds?
Any tips how to get him to go longer stretches.

Thanks for reading.

Mine is 8 months, now on 3 (though sometimes small) meals a day. Has 3 or 4 feeds a night, and as loud as a bulldozer when he doesn't get it.

I plan to start withholding it one feed at a time once I'm sure he's getting enough solids but teething is getting in the way a bit.

My eldest had 2 or 3 feeds in the night up to 14 months when I just went cold turkey. Luckily he had just just gone through a growth spurt and was exceptionally tired so fell asleep again with ease.

Have you tried cutting the feeds short slightly, gradually cutting back more every few days?

At that age I did a bottle feed at 10pm, and then a breastfeed about 2/3am. If they woke up inbetween they got a dummy and water.

Are you feeding to sleep? If he needs a breastfeed to settle every time he wakes in the night it is probably down to not having another way to get himself to sleep rather than hunger as such. Think about how he goes to sleep initially at bedtime - normally a baby would need the same circumstances to resettle in the night.

My 4 month old has been doing 6 hour stints since 6 weeks.
My now 3 year old was like your baby. Awake every hour for a feed. I stopped night feeds at about 7 months and stopped breast feeding shortly after. The night wakes didn't stop but had to add in faffing with bottles instead. We did sleep training just before he was 1. He is now 3 and still a terrible sleeper. I think some of it is just the kid 🤷‍♀️

I honestly believe it’s down to the individual child. My DS1 was a dream sleeper. Slept through from 6 weeks and has always slept well. My DS2 woke every hour for a feed, never settled himself to sleep, still at 4 rarely sleeps through the night. My DD1 is now 14 weeks and has been consistently sleeping 6-6 with one feed between 3&4am for weeks.

20mo still feeds through the night, she has slept for a 5 hour stretch at the beginning of the night a few times (and once slept 8.30-5) but we more likely get 3 hours then she's in bed with me on and off the boob all night. I'm waiting until she's 2ish now so she can understand a bit more and I'll night wean her then in hopes of more settled nights.

I think it's down to the individual child too. My DPs pointed out that I was FF and hardly slept by DSis was BF and sleeping through from around 6 weeks.

You could try offering feeds more often during the day? Is he in his own room yet? I found mine slept more when they were moved out.

Thank you all for your replies!
sorry for the delay.. I’ve been dealing with some other issues
my son does fall asleep on the boob.
Ive now resigned myself to the fact I’m going to be up every 2hrs or so.
@Scramble1805 I cannot cut back his feeds as he doesn’t settle back to sleep. 🙈 He is eating 3 meals per day. Sometimes he wolfs it all… other days he plays with it.. so still getting the hang of it. I was hoping once started solids im he would sleep better. Though no such luck ATM.
@alyceflowers Hiw much water does your little one take through the night? I thought there was limits on water intake?
I have seen another post where they say they gave water instead of milk to try curb night wakings.
Thanks for all your replies. It is appreciated x
