Leaving the house when formula fed

I’m having a total mind blank. For various reasons, we need to switch so that DC will be formula fed. Leaving the house when breastfeeding was easy, but what do I do/need to take when formula feeding? I’ve seen the NHS guidance but that seems to be more lenient than the guidance on the formula packet?

I’m thinking I need a flask for hot water, pre-measured powder, and maybe a tub of cold water to cool the bottle in? I thought a vacuum flask designed for pasta etc with ice cubes in which I could add water to? Or do I literally just premix a bottle and put it in a thermal bag with an ice pack?

I’m sure it’s obvious but I just can’t get my muddle postpartum brain to work it out.

@Babyboomtastic this is where I get confused - this NHS link suggests it is ok to make the bottles in advance and store in the fridge, but that goes against everything else I had read (including the formula instructions). It would make life easier though!

We always did this. Made up a batch of bottles, cooled them quickly and stored in the fridge (or a chill bag if going out).

We just used to make it u to instructions Nd keep in fridge for the day and bring out when needed 🤷‍♀️ would take a bottle of two in a cool bag with an ice pack. Never warmed it up on feeding.

I just assumed the guidance of make it up as you go was to prevent people giving babies hours old milk that had been on a radiator. Which is easily done in the fog of baby hood.

We always used the pre-made cartons when out and about then there was no faffing about. Sometimes made up a bottle just before leaving if it was likely they would need a feed within an hour of leaving.

Ready made and took pre-sterilised bottles. Asked for pint of warm water to heat them in cafes/pubs etc.
But in the very early months... never left the house anyway..!

Thanks all! I’ve been trying really hard to get out and about and the thought of trying to juggle making up formula has put me off and I was frustrated that I would be going backwards with independence but I feel more confident now.

Next step…cracking the bedtime routine.
