Ds2 is 6 months and breastfeeding is starting to become a struggle. I have known so many people who have a difficult time in the early days getting feeding established but in this respect I was very lucky and feeding was ok at the start. Ds2 is taking 3 solid meals a day now and is very very keen on solids -never turns them down. With milk however he is becoming increasingly uninterested. He takes a BF ok in the early hours of the morning, but for the rest of the day it is difficult. He fusses and refuses when offered milk during the day. Sometime he will take it ok at bedtime other times he refuses. During the day I am offering BF before a solid meal when I know he is hungry but he still refuses and fusses until he gets solids. I know that as his solid intake is now established his milk will go down but I worry he is not taking enough as often the early morning feed is the only decent milk feed he takes.

When my dd was 6 months she cut right back on her bf until at 9 months she was really only having a good feed at bedtime. Instead I offered her milk or water from a doidy cup during the day and at mealtimes. I believe there is too much emphasis on milk feeding when I believe if they want it they will take it, if he wants solids then just give him more dairy. Offer yoghurt or cook things with milk included. I know my dd never got her "daily intake" of milk but it has never done her any harm and she is a fantastic eater, while both my friends daughters who were bottle fed the exact daily amounts have never taking solids well and are really fussy eaters. Don't worry about it just let him decide, once he's on solids I'm afraid it's the long goodbye to bf!

Thanks amysmum, my ds does like dairy -he eats fromage frais and has porridge with milk so I guess that's a bonus.
