Nipple thrush / breastfeeding - what is test (PICS)

I know it’s TMI posting pics (left and right) but I’ve seen someone had done this previously so hope this is fine :)

I have been breastfeeding and formula feeding now for 13 weeks since baby was born. I had BF support at the start due to low milk supply and latch. The last few days I have had a tickly sensation in the nipple when baby is on breast and more awareness when she is feeding. Ie before I could close my eyes and not feel her so much but lately I can feel she’s on the boob. I wouldn’t say there is pain but possibly nearing towards burning sensation but it hasn’t been consistent symptom and possibly not as not felt since!

Baby is fine feeding, not in distress. I tried to look at mouth which is white but unsure if from milk or thrush.

A few weeks back after baby fed I got these sharp shooting sensations in the breast but just fed baby and fed and it cleared on it’s own. This is different
IF thrush how would a GP determine do they just prescribe or any tests? My boobs to me look the same and no discharge. Is there alternative to drops for baby as think maybe gel would be easier? Though maybe too young? Do I need to give up breastfeeding as I have weak immune and worry it will just be cycle - as I have had stubborn vaginal thrush in past!

My nipples were bright red and really itchy when I had thrush and I could see white spots on the roof of my babies mouth.

I don’t think you have anything to worry about. The tickling sensation might be just your let down? That’s what mine feels like. The GP could swab. If it was thrush then it’s Daktarin oral gel for the baby (mine was much younger than yours) and cream for you although that didn’t work for me and I needed Fluconazole. I got it after a course of antibiotics and once it was treated it never returned.

This is so reassuring as see people say that they’ve struggled to shift or that it kept coming back. I’m hoping it’s not thrush, did GP do a test or just prescribe?

The GP just prescribed because it was obvious in my case but I’m really not sure you have it. Even when the baby was clear and I still had it I didn’t end up passing it back to her.

I have a 9 week old and i had the same experience recently. Do you pump/use a haakka. I realised my symptoms were worse after using haakka. I went a week without it and no shooting pain etc

OP it could be vasospasms. I had this, convinced it was thrush. Adjusting babies latch helped sort it. Latch wasn't wrong, just a bit off. Can you get some f2f support to get your latch checked?
