Omeprazole and excessive wind?

Morning.

My LB is on omeprazole tablet form which I think has helped his silent reflux. Been more settled and slept better past few nights.

However, I have noticed excessive wind (bottom end) and they smell so bad! I can cope with the smell but tonight it has woken him up in pain crying all night. He keeps passing wind and they are sooo loud and smelly. He never had this before so I’m wondering whether could be caused by omeprazole?

He did a big poo last night which if anything was more looser than his normal ones but not by much or to call it diarrhoea. Gaviscon have him severe constipation.

Is there any other medication I could ask for from GP to treat silent reflux if it is omeprazole causing this? Thank you

I was told by the Infant Feeding Team at Alder Hey Hospital, omeprazole causes an increase in wind and tummy discomfort. It’s a fine line between giving a high enough dose for reflux pain but not so high it creates tummy issues. We found it gave our baby terrible wind and the discomfort from that was worse than the reflux pain (plus he started spitting out the omeprazole and clamping his mouth shut when we tried to give it to him) so we took him off it and saw a huge improvement. You could try carobel thickener although same issues with that and it can cause constipation although not to the same extent as gaviscon I think. So I’m afraid I can’t help with an alternative but yes, omeprazole can cause excessive wind.
