Perfect prep - are they safe?

I bought one then started reading how bad they are! I don’t know what to do now. I’ve been using pre made but I need to move to powder as we are going on holiday for 3 weeks and I’d need suitcases of pre made! However when I tried fo make up a powdered bottle it took 30 mins of me standing running it under the cold tap while baby waited in bouncer before it was ok to drink and baby refused it after 20mls then threw up!!

any advice appreciated - I don’t understand how anyone makes the bottles each time fresh taking so long to cool.

I used them for both my children and they've been fine. We regularly cleaned and descaled it and changed filters when said and we've had no issues.

If you're apprehensive about the prep machine you can use the nuby rapid cooler instead.

You could always mimick the prep machine; if you are making for example a 4oz bottle, add the measured formula to one oz of boiling water to decontaminate it then make up with 3oz of cool boiled.

The issue with them before was people were using ‘own’ brand filters instead of the legit tommee tippee ones.
I never had an issue with mine. If you clean it as directed and use the proper filters it’ll be fine. Making up bottles with the kettle is a nightmare.

Honestly I think it's a lifesaver!

Teafor1please · 12/03/2023 23:06

I think it's also a lifesaver but you could get a nuby rapid cool if you don't like the sound of it.

DifficultBloodyWoman · 12/03/2023 23:09

Use it according to the instructions. Then it is fucking fantastic!

Another fan here!

Had one for DS when he was a baby back in 2014. I used the official filters, cleaned it regularly as per the instructions.

Never had a issue, was an absolute life saver.

If you Google NHS and the perfect prep, you can read the potential problem with them. The "hot shot" isn't of sufficient volume to eradicate bacteria and cools very rapidly. The manufacturers were very cagey about their health and safety testing too.

I love mine that much that if there was a fire, I'd throw it out the window to safely and then save me and the kids.

Emerald237 · 03/04/2023 23:56

Unsure if it would work but would a little boiling hot water to mix formula topped up with cool boiled water or filtered water do the same job?

StellaGibson2022 · 03/04/2023 23:58

Loved mine and have sung its praises ever since. Just follow the instructions :)

Another big fan of the perfect prep machine here.

When we went on holiday for 3 weeks we used the 2 flask method to replicate the perfect prep machine. Fine but a bit annoying to have to take 2 flasks of water everywhere. You also don’t know how hot your hot water is using this method (unless you use a thermometer) but we had no problems. Much easier than trying to cool a bottle after you have made it. Happy to return to our perfect prep though.

We brought our usual formula with us from the UK but if you are buying it abroad you’ll see that most other countries only recommend you use room temperature water to make up the bottle which would definitely be easier.
