Hello all
ok so I might have to move my little girl onto comfort milk due to colic!
we have tried infacol doesn’t work and her crying is getting worse.
she is nearly 6 weeks old (2 weeks early)
so I have a few questions
can I still use my prep machine with comfort milk? As I hear mixed reviews- saying they struggle to mix the formula due to small amount of hot water given out in the hot shot !
also how will I make a bottle to go out?! As I currently use pre made bought bottles but they don’t do these in the comfort form… so annoying. Also I use the MAM bottles and you can’t put them in a jug of cold water because of the holes in the bottom so I’ve heard and you can’t pour straight up boiling water in them?! I’m honestly so confused!!

From what I remember comfort milk has to be made with cooler water than standard formula. Most standard formulas say boil kettle and wait 30 minutes whereas comfort tends to say 45 minutes as it’s not supposed to be as hot. What are the instructions on the pack?
I don’t know whether it’s a possibility to put the hot shot and the cool water in before adding the formula. That’s what you have to do with a lot of allergy formulas like Neocate that we use.

When is she crying and what is she doing.

Comfort milk is just marketing and there's no evidence it does anything at all to help babies. If it's going to be more of an issue for you it might not be worth the change.

@Twizbe
so after a lengthy chat with my health visitor they are saying it’s silent reflux… my little one has started showing a lot of symptoms of this. She occasionally brings up a small amount of her milk but shows many other symptoms! So we are going to give carobel a go to thicken her milk.
she cries mainly in the evening (but I’m beginning to wonder if part of this is her witching hour)

My daughter is 14 weeks old. We were making her bottles with boiling water for the first few weeks and then moved over to the Perfect Prep, she started showing signs of acid reflux so we went back to making them with the boiled water for a few more weeks and that seemed to work wonders.

Moved her back onto the Perfect Prep at about 10 weeks, when we put the flow of her teat up and has been great since. Might be worth a try, poor little one ☹️.

You can definitely put mam bottles in cold water to cool down, I've done it loads of times.
Comfort milk doesn't always help as it can cause constipation which in turns gives them tummy ache.
I feel for you, DD had colic and used to cry for hours and hours, hers was tongue tie related. Colief is meant to be really good if infacol doesn't work.

@fairgame84 my health visitor is saying silent reflux now…. And it doesn’t match my little one’s symptoms!
we have been give carobel to try.. rather then changing her milk

@fairgame84 does match*

Paced feeding the bottles can help with reflux symptoms as well. It just stops them gulping and allows them to slow down the feed.

My LO has silent reflux and has been on gaviscon and omeprazole for most of his life. He also started a colic witching hour type thing around 6-8 weeks old (and he was also around 2.5 weeks early) where he would scream from 5-8pm every night luckily this went away on it's own within a few weeks. Never used comfort milk as it can cause constipation and he was always struggling with this anyway, but if you do decide to try it then you need to try upping the teat size as it will need a bigger hole. I think some brands do pre made bottles of comfort milk for when you're out and about. Hope this helps x

Hi All, I’ve changed my LO to comfort aptamil formula. She is happier on it, I upped the teat size also. However the week she’s been on it I feel the Teat is far too fast for her , she drinks 150ml in less than 10mins ( even when I stagger it) along with that she leaks out so much of it and soaks through 2 bibs.
so I changed back to Teat 1. She drinks the first 3oz no problem then slows down on some bottles. Overall today she has drank approx 100ml less than normal but is extremely chilled and sleeping well.
I am worried the quantity has reduced but a happier baby - do you think I should keep going with number 1. Has anyone done the same ?
