Would you advise nightweaning? dd would feed every hr or two if given free reign.

and how bad could you expect the sensitivity to get?

Swaliswan · 10/02/2008 20:39

Ooooo, can I ask a quick question about BF during pg as well? (Sorry to hijack, Kiskidee)

How soon would you expect a nursing strike if one is going to happen?

Swaliswan · 10/02/2008 20:39

Oh, and how does being pg affect your supply?

kiskidee · 10/02/2008 20:53

where are all those breastfeeders tonight!!!!

FrannyandZooey · 10/02/2008 20:55

Oh KK I didn't know you were pg, congratulations

i'm sorry I don't know the answers have you tried phoning La Leche League, they are so fab at solving bfing problems?

duchesse · 10/02/2008 21:01

Mine got so sore I had to pack b/f in at 14 weeks- it just became excruciating. My son was 14 months so didn't do so very badly.

kiskidee · 10/02/2008 21:03

now why the hell didn't i think of that franny?

no one on here knows, till now. i have been trying to get my head round it.

OP posts:
duchesse · 10/02/2008 21:04

And I started getting sore at about 6 wks.

FrannyandZooey · 10/02/2008 21:25

I know quite a few people on here and in RL who have tandem fed - I think some found it more comfortable than others

Swaliswan just from reading, I believe about 2/3 of children will self wean during pregnancy, about 1/3 in the first trimester and 1/3 in the last. Being pg can reduce your supply at first and the taste can change. Some children don't like it and stop, others are determined to carry on. Many tandem feeders report it a great experience once the new baby is born so obviously worth persevering with if it suits you.

Kiski well a BIG congratulations to you. How are you feeling?

Lulumama · 10/02/2008 21:27

no advice, but big congratulations from me !

kiskidee · 10/02/2008 21:33

been feeling really nauseous and tired the last 2 wks. seemed better this weekend. don't know if that is because i have not been at work.

dd keeps wanting to be carried and it sends my heart racing as does everything i try to do at normal speed. low bp methinks. what do you think lulu?

i think i am about 8 wks. thanks for the congrats.

your body undergos massive hormonal changes in the first few weeks, which can exhaust you and make you feel ropey... not sure re low BP and racing heart... i find low BP makes me feel like keeling over if i stand up too quick.. whether pg or not! have you been to the quacks yet?

kiskidee · 10/02/2008 21:37

no not being to the quacks yet. been in denial about my 'condition' have made an appt for tuesday though.

PortAndLemon · 10/02/2008 21:37

Congratulations!

Personally, I started to get the pain on latching on (rather like in the early days with a newborn, so just toe-curling for the first few seconds rather than hurting the whole way through) from somewhere around the end of the first trimester through to somewhere around 23 weeks or so. I also started (a bit later, maybe around 18 weeks) getting the "breastfeeding giving me the heebie-jeebies" thing that is apparently also very common.

We had night-weaned when I was pregnant before when DS was 23 months (that pregnancy ended in miscarriage) so it wasn't an issue this time. The night-weaning wasn't for discomfort, just that I was so utterly exhausted combining pregnancy and night feeds that I knew something had to give.

This time round (DS was 2.6 when I got pregnant) DS mostly self-weaned (we were down to one or two feeds a week) by the time I was around 23 weeks (annoyingly, actually, since as noted above it was just starting to get more comfortable) but now I'm 32 weeks he's starting to ask to nurse more often, so I'm kind of expecting him to up the frequency once the baby arrives.

But your mileage may vary . There are a whole host of different experiences out there. Have you read Adventures In Tandem Nursing? Very helpful book IMO and IME.

Lulumama · 10/02/2008 21:37

good !!! low iron can contribute to breathlesness too

CantSleepWontSleep · 10/02/2008 21:41

Congratulations kiskidee - I didn't realise you were pregnant either.

I'm actually behind you (just over 6 weeks I think), but mine became agony over a week ago, so around 5 weeks.

Dd likes to feed at least every hour during the day if given the chance, but we haven't night fed for a long time. Do you co-sleep? If the pain is keeping you awake then I would be inclined to night wean if you can.

I spoke to a RL friend the other day who is in 3rd trimester, and she said it hurt for the 1st trimester, then got better, and is now hurting again nearer the end.

kiskidee · 10/02/2008 21:51

this is sort of my outing thread as haven't told MN yet. was feeling panicky and desperater earlier as dd was crying because i refused to feed her due to painful nips.

have phoned ABM now and feeling calmer.

OP posts:
kiskidee · 10/02/2008 21:56

oh forgot to say congratulations too CSWS

OP posts:
CantSleepWontSleep · 10/02/2008 22:18

Thanks k. What did the ABM say?

BabiesEverywhere · 10/02/2008 22:32

I have the Hilary Flower Tandem Nursing book and although useful, nearly all the advice is YMMV.

I did get a bit sore around 8 weeks pregnant and my DD started nursing a lot more than normal, so I wonder if my milk dipped at that point.

At 14 weeks I take care with her latch as my nipples are sensitive but have no pain ATM (touch wood may this continue)

We are just going day to day, seeing how things go.

Congratulations Kiskidee

kiskidee · 11/02/2008 09:00

ABM said that YMMV also. I kinda knew that. I think I was panicing last night because dh is away, dd was asking to feed again and was crying because I couldn't cope with feeding her again and I could just imagine waht a long night it could have been.

we discussed night weaning - dd still feeds a lot at night between 1am and 7 am. but last night I decided to up it off as long as she could go. I fed her at 10 pm and I managed to post pone her till 5.30 am. A first for her.

i am 6 weeks today, still bf my 11 month old and have no boob tenderness or sore nipples (only when he bites! ) is this normal?

BabiesEverywhere · 11/02/2008 09:22

bethoo, Enjoy your non sensitive nipples, long may they last

bethoo · 11/02/2008 09:24

thnksbabieseverywhere, i just get paraniod as got no symptoms really and am surethat cant be good, something about low hormone levels and unsuccessful pregnancy!

BabiesEverywhere · 11/02/2008 09:37

I had virtually no symptoms when I was pregnant with my DD, currently a healthy 17 month old, whereas I have been very sick/sickly this time...I prefer the first no symptoms pregnancy
