EBF 17 week old sudden problems pooping

So before anything, I've been to a doctor about this but just wanted to see if any other parents have experienced this. It's very long, so apologies in advance, but I feel like the more info I give the better.

So this is my first baby, and she's always had seemingly a lot more issues with gas/pooping than is considered normal (when I say 'issues' I mean real fussiness and sometimes seeming to be in agony purple-faced screaming crying arching her back in clear pain and distress) but all poops normal, gaining weight normally, HV unconcerned etc so we just were left to cope with it really.

However at around 10 weeks old she suddenly increased how much she was feeding. It changed from every 3-4 hrs feeding for sometimes well over an hour, to suddenly feeding (at most) every 2.5hrs for 5-20 mins and sometimes feeding 5-20 mins every 20 minutes! At first I thought it was a growth spurt but it lasted over 3 weeks like this. Along with the sudden increase in feeding came an increase in pooping (around 4-6 poonamis a day!) This became the normal amount she'd poop, and gradually she seemed to be regularly wanting feeds roughly every 2 hours and would feed 10-30 mins on one breast, switching to the other for the next feed (unless she'd not fed for long in which case I'd offer the same one, or if she drained one and was still hungry).

As the weeks went on she seemed like she finally was coping a lot better with gas and pooping, and was in something of a regular pattern and sleeping through the night too.

Fast forward to when the problem at hand all started: at around 15 weeks (she's now 17 weeks).
She suddenly is only doing 1 poonami a day (if we're lucky) and she's had maybe 2 that have been a normal colour in these past 2 weeks. The rest have all been green and usually with mucus/stringy looking stuff. And until she actually does the poo it's like we're back to square one as it's making her writhe around purple-faced screaming and crying in agony again. It almost seems like she's straining sometimes but all of the poops are liquid, the last one 2 days ago was quite watery too. When she actually DOES the poo she's completely fine, pushes it out and doesn't cry at all, so it's like the issue is happening when it's in her intestines or something??? I will add that she's having plenty of normal wees, so no issues there.

I can't see how it could be a fore/hind milk imbalance because I'm very careful to make sure she's drinking long enough to get both and when I sometimes have to check if she's crying because I've ran out of milk, I squeeze and the milk is white (which I assume is the hind milk).

We've done all the usual tips like the bicycles, baths, tummy massages etc but not helping.
She is otherwise fine. No fever, no illness, gaining weight, feeding normally (unless she's in a lot of pain, in that case it can interfere sometimes). For the past 4 days I have cut out dairy and eggs in the hopes that it might be either of those (I was allergic to cows milk as a baby but grew out of it) but so far no change at all in colour, frequency or her obvious pain and difficulty.

Took her to the doctor today and she hadn't a clue so she wants a stool sample and have to wait for a call from paediatrics, and to just carry on without dairy. She has her 16 week vaccs on 1st March and I'm dreading dealing with the after effects of that on top of all this - she had an unusual reaction to the 8 week 6-in-1 2nd dose where her entire thigh went bright pinky-red 5 hours after the injection and was very fussy, called 111 but it eventually faded away an hr after I called so the on-call Dr was happy not to see her, but this made me concerned about possible allergens as I know some vaccines contain egg proteins for binding or something so now I'm worried about her 3rd dose, and whether it could be eggs she's allergic to/intolerant of.

But again, this is all a sudden change and I never changed my diet in all these weeks! Again I'm sorry this is so long I'm just really struggling to cope at the moment and wondered if anyone else had experienced anything like this? TIA for anyone who's taken the time to read this whole thing.

Not sure I can answer all of it but a few things I'll mention.

Firstly, digestion starts to mature between 4 and 6 months so this can change what has become normal for a baby. Both of mine started to go longer between poos, and much bigger in one go around 16 weeks.
She might be breaking down some food in your milk a bit differently now and her poos might reflect that.

Cutting cows milk certainly seems like the way to go (with those symptoms and your own history) but it can take several weeks to get it out your system, plus 2 weeks or so to get it out of baby. Eggs however could only take a day so if that was the sole issue you would see a difference much quicker. Same goes for most foods (1 to 3 days), its dairy that's the difficult one.
I want to suggest wheat as well as another option. From doing some searching online I think a lot of people have issue with this (due to decreasing food quality over the years) without knowing it.

If you were worried about foremilk and hindmilk then it's better to only offer 1 breast per feed. A breast doesn't just run out of milk like that, it will continue to create a slow flow for as long as baby is sucking. Though not sure this is the issue anyway.

Sounds like an allergy to me, something you're eating. My daughter had CMPA and would vomit up entire feeds and poop blood. This did not stop until 28 days after I cut out dairy, which is what they recommend (I still haven't had any dairy, 13 months later!). I think you might need to give the dairy and eggs a little longer to get out of her system.

It's awful, but it will get better! Congratulations, well done on coping so far and all the best for the future.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read and answer.
@Scramble1805 Yes wheat crossed my mind as well, I'm totally upending my diet and I'm rubbish at finding replacements while still ensuring I get enough nutrition, haha. That's a point actually, if I'm not quite getting enough nutrition does that affect my breastmilk? I hope I'll see a change soon if it is dairy. It's awful seeing her like this.
And I thought maybe it's just further digestion development initially but it's just odd how it happened so suddenly and without me changing my diet (ie one day she was pooping mustard yellow colour with normal consistency 4-6x with no problems or pain, and the next day she was having extreme difficulty and straining/screaming in pain etc and poop was green and it continued like that it was really odd)

Dyou think I can assume it's not the eggs then since I've not had them for 4 days? Or should I just carry on for now? She's booked in to see paediatrics on Thursday and has her 16 week vaccs tomorrow (Wed).
And yes sorry if I wasn't clear, I only do 1 breast per feed til it's 'drained' (I go off her behaviour and if I then squeeze and nothing comes out anymore) I know they never REALLY empty but if she's still hungry and it isn't coming out enough for her she just pulls off and cries over and over so I squeeze and if nothing comes out that's when I'll switch but that rarely happens. But l agree with you I don't think it's that either.

@hippygirllucky Thank you, luckily no blood just green and mainly mucousy. She does occasionally bring up curdled milk but I believe that's normal when it's been sitting in her stomach a while? Not sure if that is a sign as well though tbh!

That is strange it changed like that within 1 day, but with no other changes and at that age I strongly suspect its just her digestion developing.
Maybe give it a few more days with eggs, or until you know any after effects of her vaccination are cleared up. Hopefully it will all be fine.

Scramble1805 · 28/02/2023 20:06

...Oh and a quick Google has suggested that flax seed (ground, not whole) can help detox dairy quicker, have a look if interested.

lucylulululu · 01/03/2023 00:02

@Scramble1805 Thank you I will continue without eggs for now and I'll mention her unusual reaction to the 6-in1 2nd dose when she goes for the 3rd dose tomorrow. I'm so anxious about it :( I know it's much better for her to have it and I'm no anti-vaxxer whatsoever but I can't help having an inner panic thinking she'll have anaphylaxis or something if she's allergic to anything. I had a bad experience with the last nurse but I'm trying to trust that the next nurse will be better and will know what to do if that happens (touch wood and fingers crossed it won't).

Oh thank you I've never heard of that but I'll give it a Google and see if I can get any near me.

Nothing hugely constructive from me except to ask where she is supposed to have her jab - is it at the GP or a clinic? I used to react badly to vaccinations so mine were done at a GP or a hospital for big ones. Could you ask for it to be moved to somewhere where you could get speedy medical support for your own reassurance?

lucylulululu · 01/03/2023 01:02

@QueenOfWeeds it's at the GP and scheduled for 5:10pm I'm dreading it honestly :( it's the 6-in-1 3rd dose and MenB 2nd dose.
I assume being a medical practice they will have emergency equipment in case of any vaccine anaphylaxis reactions? You would hope so at any rate!

Don't worry 3 babies atm all been thru similar just digestion system growing.some days they poop alot others not and same for feeding

QueenOfWeeds · 01/03/2023 02:30

They should be. I’m sure you can stay in the waiting room for a while after if it makes you feel safer.

Feedingnightmare · 01/03/2023 14:07

Hi OP. My DD1 was like this. She had CMPA so the gas and pooping dramas stopped once I cut out dairy. However, after her first set of jabs, it all started again and she began reacting to other foods in my diet. We saw a paediatric GI consultant who was adamant it had nothing to do with the jabs, but I've just had DD2 and pretty much the same has happened again. One thing that did eventually help was probiotics so we've put DD2 on them as well, hoping her stomach settles soon. Cranial osteopathy helped a bit- not really with the pooping but more with how much it would upset DD. Sorry I can't be of more help x

lucylulululu · 10/03/2023 15:58

Sorry I never saw your reply til now @Feedingnightmare
How were they with the 16 week vaccines? As I know some vaccines contain allergens and I'm worried about how she will react if it is allergies (she had the 16 week vaccines delayed due to this green poop issue but I feel nothing has really been answered so the delay was pointless). She has them today.

@lucylulululu she seemed the same with the 16 week ones- I too am delaying them for DD2 this time until she settles completely. It's all a bit of a mystery but the cranial osteopath said she sees lots of babies who react in various ways to the jabs.
