Does this sound like reflux?

My son is one month old, he's exclusively breastfed. He's a very content baby and when comfortable is happy to be put down etc. Everytime he does cry, it's usually followed by a fart or a burp so I know he struggles a bit with gas. He also can really cry, arch his back, bring his knees up etc and sometimes spits up curdled milk. When he does cry it's only for a few minutes at a time really, never more than 10. The worst is after night feeds lying down he'll have a cry for a few minutes and seem uncomfortable and can sometimes be quite fussy for up to half an hour, just grunting and straining and bringing legs up/burping/farting etc until he will fall back asleep. He does sleep pretty well.

I've read threads on reflux as he has some of the symptoms but it sounds like he's fairly mild compared to what I read as his crying never gets to a point we can't stop it or I can't bear it, we are getting sleep and he poos a million times a day and is gaining really well and moving up centiles as opposed to losing weight, so I'm not sure if it's something I seek help for or not? I just hate seeing him uncomfortable.

Just sounds to me like he needs a thorough burping. Do you keep him upright for 20 - 30 minutes after a feed? (Easier said than done sometimes)
And in my experience, any burps that don't come up and come out the other way are more uncomfortable than regular farts.

This is just my opinion though, I've had 2 very windy babies that gulp air at every opportunity. One had symptoms of reflux and the other didn't, but both a bugger for burps.

Not during nightfeeds no, we feed lying down and I fall asleep while he's still feeding sometimes! Which was fine for a few weeks but the last week he's started to be like this so I'm staying awake during feeds to burp him after but can't always get one out

Oh yes, sounds like my problems. Could never understand how anyone feeds lying down, you have to get up to burp them.
It's awful but sometimes you have to wake them up properly to get the wind out.
What I'm currently doing with my 7 month old who hates being woken by burping: when feed is done I give a syringe of gripe water and lie him down on my lap with knees pushed up against his chest for a few minutes. Then slowly raise him up so he's sitting facing me with his face close to me to keep him calm. Burp might come out then. If not I move him in slow circles. Burp might come out. If not lie back down and repeat (minus the gripe water). After that I try waking him up by blowing on his face. But this is where it gets risky as once he's awake and doesn't burp then it can take a long time to get back to sleep.

Good luck. Its frustrating. They're little angels in the day but can be devils at night!

Up with him again now, worst night yet he fed at 12, 1, 2 and again now. Lots of screaming and back arching. I fed him sat up instead of lying down and didn't make a sodding bit of different. Burped everytime he's waking up in discomfort again so quickly regardless then gets in a tizz and wants feeding again for comfort

It's awful I know. Ultimately the ideal solution is them sleeping through so not needing a feed but you're a bit far from that yet.
Id recommended giving gripe water or infacol a go. It brings all the bubbles together and pushes them upwards. But most of the time they still need to be partially awake to get it out.

Infacol can make reflux symptoms worse as the orange flavour has citrus.

Hold baby upright for at least 20 mins after a feed and see if it helps.

@doingitalllagain how are you going with this? My 6 week old is going through similar symptoms, not sure if it’s gas or reflux though?
