I am keen to cut back especially in the evening and replace breastfeeding with trying formula.
Does anyone have any advice, I have wanted to do this for ages but nervous it is going to be hard - I don’t want to stress dbaby!
thank you !

We had some success with the doidy cup. Can be pretty messy though. Our DS managed a straw cup pretty early and we had the most success with that. And the Tommy tipple sippy cup.

Basically we had a bottle refuser and tried everything. But the most helpful thing was actually getting him to use a bottle. We tried most brands but mam with a free flowing teat was the most successful, because he could basically chew it and still get milk out.

Do you think it would be best to try a bottle instead initially ? And Thank you for the reply as useful to hear .
dS so far solely breastfeeds for milk but drinks water enthusiastically and messily from a normal glass

For some reason I thought your DS was 8 months, I guess at 10 it might not be worth introducing a bottle since theoretically they're not supposed to have them from 1 year!

If your DS can drink water from a glass then I think you probably don't have to be too concerned - the doidy cup for instance is to try and teach them how to drink from a cup. Our real struggle was to get the milk into DS's mouth in the first place! I'd try the munchkin 360 cup as it's basically drinking from a cup without the mess.

At 10 months of you want to reduce breastfeeding I'd just offer more food.

In 2 months you can fully wean if you want so no need to introduce bottles and formula now.

Thanks Twizb, I appreciate the wisdom. I did already try DS on a bottle last night and he seemed quite happy having a good bit but then carried on breastfeeding as keenly as normal despite it.

my reason to start now as we have one evening out next month and already a bit worried as I don’t enjoy leaving him! So if he’s used to not needing me in the evenings I think I’ll relax more. He is a great eater and eats almost anything (he loves sardines!)

Maybe I’ll not make too much effort now then and wait to do this properly at 12 months , as he certainly managed enough formula to take the edge off hunger if I hadn’t been there

At this age he will be ok. If you're not there he won't ask for his milk.

Once you're back though he might be a boob monster.

I left my DD for 2 nights when she was just over 13 months old. She was fine without boob milk and we got right back into breastfeeding when I was back.
