I heard that one shouldnt have carbonated water while BF. Does anyone know why and if this is true? Thanks!

sounds like bollocks to me. possibly someone reckons that you drinking carbonated water might somehow make your baby too windy.

myth

NoBiggy · 08/02/2008 00:39

You can't have it because if you jump up and down afterwards the milk flies out and sprays up the wall.

Hope that helps.

RosaLuxOnTheBrightSideOfLife · 08/02/2008 01:08

My MIL tried to pesuade me it would give the baby wind. Like, how?

kiskidee · 08/02/2008 03:32

Of course you shouldn't have carbonated water because it makes your milk fizzy.

You also shouldn't have crisps because it makes your milk crunchy.

sorry. couldn't resist.

2sugars · 08/02/2008 06:11

glimmer, I'm sorry but that sounds like utter bollocks to me too.

Blandmum · 08/02/2008 07:03

Can't you tell that it makes your boobies swell up with air?????

C'mon girls that is just so obvious.

Cross channel swimmers guzzle the stuff before they go for their swim, it makes them more boyant.

Bouncingturtle · 08/02/2008 07:48

I was told the same thing by one of my mws, I did think it sounded a bit mad!

So if I ate a whole tin of cocoa powder, would it make my milk chocolately?

tiktok · 08/02/2008 11:36

Oh this is very true - all the bubbles bypass your stomach and head straight for your milk, and give the baby terrible wind.

You should never run for a bus when you're bf, either, or the milk will jiggle about and turn into butter.

And you should always scrib your nipples with domestos to kill germs, otherwise bacteria will get in and turn the milk to yoghurt.

Steer clear of chips, too, as it makes the milk really greasy.

Martha200 · 08/02/2008 11:40

hadto open this thread as i drink a reasonable amount! ds not that windy compared to when my firstwas little

StealthPolarBear · 08/02/2008 15:50

i drink the stuff by tge pint
and caffienated coffee too

StealthPolarBear · 08/02/2008 15:51

and the red wine cancels out any effects!

BroccoliSpears · 08/02/2008 15:55

In the interests of science I would like to volunteer to eat a jar of nutella to see if it makes chocolate milk.

beansprout · 08/02/2008 15:57

I am also willing to offer myself up in the interests of science. Bugsy doing the Kettle Chip line of enquiry.

merryberry · 08/02/2008 16:16

this Q reminds me of the super skinny, super serious acquaintance I once had who told me that the carbonated water I rather like was the direct cause of my cellulite.

And not the alcohol, cigs, pizza, lardy first world diet I was on in my 20s, presumably.

glimmer · 08/02/2008 18:41

Oops -- I am impressed by the feedback I got! Thanks for all your interesting theories and recommendations .
I wonder who it would feel to nurse with fizzy milk... No, actually was a serious question, thanks for your insight.
