Nutramigen - prep and advice needed

My daughter (5 weeks) has just been prescribed Nutramigen due to CMPA.

We are on day 4 now and almost instantly there was a positive change in her mood and 'fussiness'. However for the past 4 days she has been straining pretty much constantly when she is awake with no gas or poop coming out.

Before she was on normal Aptamil which obviously was causing her discomfort due to her allergy, her nappies were pretty much just wet or mucus, no actual poop but could be produced up to 6 times a day!

Is straining/not pooping normal? Tonight she had an absoute meltdown, probably the worst one yet for nearly 2 hours, after she finally pooped (hadn't in about 12 hours) she calmed down and slept. I'm worried the trace amounts of CMP are still causing her issues but there is also a chance I'm being paranoid and obsessive.

I am using the perfect prep machine (hot shot then cool water first then adding the formula). This comes out at 28 degrees.

I also used my Nuby rapid cool, which comes out at around 35 degrees, which would be best to use?

Is it possible to boil the water, decant into the bottles to cool and add the formula when it's time to feed, or do they need to be in the fridge?

Thanks

The straining and trying to poop is hopefully just her stomach getting used to a change in formula.

All three of mine have been and one still is on nutramigen.

I used the prep in the day but at night or out and about I fill the bottles with boiled water which I let cool (not in the fridge), and add an oz from a thermos when it's time to drink, and it makes it the perfect temp to add the formula and go drink straight away

hello. We were under a dietician for various things including suspected CMPA. We did an elimination diet (was breastfeeding at the time) and she said to do it for 4 weeks before we could rule it out. So I suspect it can take a while for things to settle down.

Anyway I don’t have a perfect prep but am a big fan of the Nuby Rapid Cool so would recommend that. The main thing is the water has to be at least 70 degrees when you add it to the formula - just so it kills anything that might be in the formula. Hope your little one feels better soon.

We boil the kettle and leave the water in the bottle/s to cool or leave the kettle until we want to make a bottle/s. It says room temperature water once boiled or something if I remember correctly. Room temperature is going to be less than 28 degrees.

If I'm making them in advance then I do the same as above, mix the formula in and store in the fridge. I heat it up slightly by putting the bottle in warm water after but not too hot otherwise it impacts the probiotics in it.
