Dropping night feeds

Hi just curious really!
My 8 month old still has a 6oz bottle in the night, usually around 1/2am - tonight he slept till 3.30 so had it then, just wondering how I’ll know when he’s ready to drop this bottle. I don’t mind him having it as he drinks all of it and usually goes back to sleep pretty quickly after.
thanks!

At that age I offered my daughter water in the night to wean her off milk. Pretty soon she stopped waking in the night as I don’t think she thought it was worth the effort just for water lol

@SassyPants87 i did think of offering him water but he’s draining the bottle at that time so didn’t know whether to wait till he’s not really interested in drinking the milk. Might give it a try though!

I wouldn’t worry about it any time soon. If it helps them get back to sleep don’t make life harder for yourself. It’s entirely normal for them to want and need a night feed (or more than 1) until well over a year. If they’re waking for it keep giving it, though over a year try to move to a cup instead of a bottle

@BeckyBoo16 you could start with reducing the amount of milk in the night feed. What then tends to happen is they carry over the calories in the day feed if they need it. It’s totally up to you whatever you think is best. My baby used to go straight back to sleep after feeds but I couldn’t! So I just felt like a sleep deprived zombie all the time. Once I offered water and she wasn’t bothered about waking up anymore then I knew she was just drinking out of comfort/habit rather than her actually needing the milk

Thank you. He’s being very fussy with bottles in the day and sometimes refusing them or drinking very little (think it’s a mixture of teething/cold which is putting him off) so I think because he’s drinking the whole bottle in the night I will carry on with it for a bit. He usually goes back to sleep pretty quickly after, takes me a bit longer! Haha but maybe in a couple of months I’ll try the water thing!
