Breastfeeding in Ramadan?

Hey guys, I’m sorry if this is a dumb or stupid question but I was just wondering if any of you fellow Muslim Mumsnetters have fasted in Ramadan while breastfeeding? I actually combo feed my 3 month old DS (due to private reasons), but it’s mostly breastfeeding. He has a bottle about twice a day. I wanted to fast in Ramadan but is it okay to do so? Will it affect milk supply? My close friends and family bottle fed so they don’t know that much.

Of course, if I shouldn’t fast because I know breastfeeding mothers are exempt, then I won’t if it affects milk supply a lot

A quick Google would have sorted that for you:

I am not muslim, but I have spent some time in a muslam country and breastfeeding/ pregnant women are exempt, also ill people, small children.....
You can fast on another dates, if you so want, not compulsory.

Not Muslim but would expect that since eating is important for your and baby’s health, you would be exempt as it’s on the grounds of health (necessity)

Don't fast. Your body needs steady nutrition through the day. Breastfeeding a baby brings you rewards in place of fasting xxx

Separate issue, but could you go exculsive breastfeeding?

She knows she's exempt but she wants to know if she can without affecting her supply not out of duty.

Please don't fast, even if you quit breastfeeding your body is still recovering nutritionally from the birth. There's a reason for exemptions.

Emmamoo89 · 06/02/2023 17:13

It wouldn't be good to do it x

Thank you @IDontWantToBeAPie still engaging brain apparently. Sorry @dreamerkr 💐 in your situation, I wouldn’t fast as you need the energy to make milk

Your body needs fuel to supply milk if you haven’t eaten or had water it can reduce your milk supply
