Anti reflux formula

Hi everyone

My little girl is three weeks old and suffering from reflux. She’s currently on Kendamil and has been prescribed Gaviscon which is having no effect other than giving her constipation. My husband has bought some cow and gate anti reflux formula but I’m very confused about the prep for it.

I obviously can’t wait the 45 mins plus standing time it suggests on the box. How do people make this formula up quickly? I’m used to using the fridge method but this won’t work with this formula because it will thicken too much. And if you wait 45 mins the water is well below the 70 degrees needed to kill the bacteria in the formula so how do I make sure it’s safe for her to drink?

Im desperate to help my baby but I can’t make her wait nearly an hour for a bottle each time and can’t predict when she’ll wake with her being so young.

Any advice?

Hello there so this might not work for you as we used Aptamil A/R but early on with my baby I kind of always had a bottle ready.. it was very wasteful as you can guess. After her reflux got better with this formula and incidentally she started to develop a bit more of a rythm I Stopped doing that and now prepare bottles around the time I think she needs to feed... which means that sometimes the milk hasn't really thickened yet. I havent really noticed a big difference in spit up though. It makes intuitive sense that the formula would continue to thicken in the stomach with the fluids ensuring it stays down better than other formulas...
Just sharing my observations here but maybe you can give it a try?

You can get carobel powder on prescription from gp. One scoop into bottle shake and wait two minutes and it's ready.

I use that with the ready made aptamil 1 bottles, really improved her reflux. Hope your little baby feels better soon x

I used the Aptamil stuff. I’m pretty sure we used the perfect prep machine with it but can’t remember for sure!

I think it did help a bit.

If you’re on Kendamil and baby likes it I’d definitely try and get carobel to add to it rather than switch brands. If you do switch brands hipp organic reflux is the most similar to kendamil I found.

With carobel it is added to formula which has been made and cooled then left for four mins to thicken up.

Has anyone mentioned the possibility of Cow's Milk Protein Allergy?
