DD2 will not drink a drop at nursery

Hello - anybody been in this situation?

DD2 (6 months) has just started at nursery two days a week as I go back to work soon. She has been EBF since birth and we have been trying to get her to use bottles / beakers for weeks. We have had limited success at home (max 2 fl oz from a bottle has been drunk maybe once or twice) but at nursery she will not drink ANYTHING.

We have tried ebm, formula, water and tried bottles, a variety of beakers and a doidy cup.
Nothing has tempted her.

I work a long day (12 hours away from home) so she's pretty thirsty when I get back to her, but otherwise ok.

I'm not particularly worried really, but it's not an ideal situation and I'd really value advice from anybody who's had the same problem

thanks!

Forgot to say - she is starting to eat solids now and is REALLY keen on them, so she isn't going hungry - she just isn't getting a drink.

nicethickvest - mums in this situation make sure the solids their baby has include some 'watery' ones, so if she is holding finger foods, they're things which naturally have fluid in them (juicy pear, melon, for instance). If she is spoon fed, then a few spoons of water can be added to the food.

It's really not worth getting into a fight with her about - at home or at nursery. In time, with patience, she'll manage beakers just fine.

One thing you could try is a small pottery egg cup which you hold up to her mouth for her to slurp...but as I say, not to the extent she is upset or angry.

Hope this helps.

thanks tiktok - that's pretty much what we're doing anyway so you've boosted my confidece!

I've been trying BLW so she's had quite a few bits of cooked apple or pear to hold onto. I've suggested to nursery that they add lots of milk to any mashed food they give her. Makes meal times messy but who cares!

The egg cup idea is a good one. I've been using a doidy cup which is much the same I suppose. Tends to go everywhere but DD loves trying to grab it and chew it!

thanks again!

Nicethickvest - we had exactly this problem with DD at six months. She's now 15 months and still doesn't take much at nursery, but drinks lots of cow milk at home from a tommee tippee sippy mug (and has two short BFs a day).

Just persevere and try not to worry too much (easier said than done I know) - sounds like you're doing really well. Mixing milk into her food at nursery is a good idea. Does she like yogurt?
