Using boob as dummy

Hi

Looking for some hope,
currently ebf 4.5 mo and she’s using my nipple as a dummy overnight. I don’t overly mind just now as we’re co sleeping and I do mostly sleep.
But is this something i’m better trying to stop now or will she grow out of doing it eventually?

Thanks

A dummy is literally a fake boob. It’s a completely normal action and one that they will grow out of.

She’ll grow out of when she’s ready. You can try and unlatch gently with a finger when she’s asleep if you want but it’s not always worth the risk. Remember it’s the dummy that a replacement nipple not the other way round, baby is just doing what’s natural 🙂

Do whatever gets you the most sleep 👍🏻

My DD was the same and I carried on until she was 18 months but I did have PND and also started to gain weight throughout. I'm not sure if this constant demand heightened how I felt because I was the only one who could comfort her and it was exhausting. I stopped once she started clamping down on my nipple in her sleep (we co-slept and she would just latch on when she pleased). Literally went cold turkey and after a couple of nights she became this incredible sleeper who suddenly needed zero comfort throughout the night and slept through. I do wish I had done things differently although I'm not sure how! I think your LO is a lot younger atm and at that age I probably wouldn't be so fussed about it. If you find it is affecting you though then perhaps you should try and do something about it.

I love if when baba uses me for comfort 🥰 doesn't last forever x

Thanks so much for replies, defo agree doing what gets most sleep but yeah i think id be struggling with it at 18 months.
One of the many things with babies it’s impossible to predict!
