Baby 5 weeks old feeding well and gaining weight but only feeds from one breast/feed...mostly feeds 2-3 hrs in day and 3-4 at night...has days when feeds constantly and sometimes will go less than hour and I tend to put her straight onto second side then..
She almost always falls asleep at breast as feed slows down (on ave after 15-20mins or so)...and remains settled after burp...should I be waking her up and offering the other side on every feed or only as I am when seems to want more after less than hour??
Help

You are doing fine. Falling asleep is completely normal don't worry - 15-20 minutes is okay. You are still establishing your milk supply so don't fret about both sides at one feed but do rotate them as it were so every feed is on the opposite side.

Honestly in a few weeks it will feel easier and more normal! Though your daughter will probably still feed very often. DD fed every couple of hours till she was five months. She's 15 months now - if she had the option she'd still spend all day nursing

Oh and let her sleep and catch some sleep while you can - it helps babies grow to sleep! You'll only make her cross if you wake her up to wave a nipple in her face when she's full!

I only ever fed ds from one side until he dropped to 2-3 bfs a day. If she's happy with just the one, don't worry.

I meant one side at a time - remember to swap sides like WMMC said!

I fed one side at a time for 1st 3 weeks, have had some problems since then and had to see a bf counsellor, anyway, she told me that if possible to always offer both breasts at a feed, she said once lo has finished on 1st boob the hormones they get from you in the feed make them feel sleepy but the affects are short lived, (as you say sometimes lo falls asleep - thats ok) anyway, if lo hasn't completely fallen asleep offer the other boob, sometimes they won't want it but sometimes they'll fancy an extra drink or 'dessert'. I was a bit confused by this cause then i wasn't sure which boob to start with next time but she said it doesn't really matter and best to just go with the one that feels fullest at the time hth
