Ds 7 months Biting me

Hi, I exclusively bf until 6 months. Once I introduced solids I introduced a bottle of my breast milk at night for dh to give so I could sleep. Beginning of this month I ran out of my stored supply so introduced a bottle of formula. Ds got his 1st tooth 3 weeks ago and he was fine bf as usual. Yesterday he bit me for the 1st time. I did what I've read on here pushed him into me so his latch broke and said no. He started to cry so I started to cry. We were about to go out so I grabbed a bottle of fornula and gave him it (can hold himself) he drank it all very happily. Then every time 5 minutes or less into a bf he has bit me I take him off say no and withhold breast for 10 mins before offering again but again he bites me. He normally has 4 hours of breastfeeding a day but yesterday and so far today only about an hours worth I've been giving him formula instead as want to keep his fluids up (he's got a cold). I'm kinda disappointed that he's kinda self weaning maybe he's biting to say he doesn't want breast anymore. I did break the feed to sleep habit a few days ago so not sure whether that's another reason (cuddle to sleep now) I'd still like to give him bf as much as I can but I'm kinda frightened as him biting hurts. Even if only 30 mins-1hr a day with formula top ups. How do I go about the stopping biting. Or should I continue what I'm doing. Thanks sorry for long post.

Mine did this a few times while he was teething.

I screamed (involuntarily!) each time it happened and it soon stopped.

He definitely wasn't self weaning, he BF until 2.5 and wasn't ready to stop even then!

How quick did he learn not to bite? It really hurts

My DD bit me and so pushed her into the breast to force her to unlatch
she barely did it after that so carried on feeding until she was three
each child is different - perhaps gosh teething is really affecting?
Do you want to stop feeding?

Just tested myself turns out it's probably covid ds has as I've just got a positive 😭

I would like to continue breast feeding. I enjoy the bonding.

As @Got2besoon said pull baby into the breast when they bite.
Less likely to be a nasty bite then.

I had the same problem with DC1 at 7 months and found the BFing Helplines ha some very good suggestions. Might be worth giving one of them a ring?

Could you express? Compare how the breast milk is taken to the formula? (Is formula more filling/extra hungry) perhaps that’s why.

Got2besoon · 14/12/2022 12:05

My little one only tried biting a few times and that was it thankfully.

Sorry for not replying until now. Ds was in hospital today he has covid and I couldn't break his temperature 40.2 degrees Celsius. He's very teary but is not taking a bottle at all now so I'm on the night-shift as he won't go in his cot he's that poorly. He's been breastfeeding all day and napping bit me once but he was squirming before he did it so I'm starting to get hang of the cues.

Poor little thing and poor you. Hope he recovers quickly Flowers

Dd ground her jaw back and forewards on my nipples when cutting her molars, so not a bite as such. I used to dab a bit of teething gel on before a feed, which stopped it.
