DS 6m refusing the breast all morning, very out of character

Maybe this isn't a problem but I'm a bit of a worrier [wrings hands]

DS has always been an enthusiastic and frequent feeder. He's never refused a feed, although he has been through fussy spells he's always bobbed on and off if offered.

This morning he woke at half 5, had a bum change and mucked around for an hour or so and then had a teeny feed-to-sleep around 7. He hasn't fed again since. In itself this is not a huge surprise - he is distractable and can go over 4 hours without asking for a feed if there's loads going on. But he's grouchy this morning, and I've offered him a feed 3 times to comfort him and he just arches his back and rolls away and shouts.

I'm sure I can feel his first incisor starting to come up but he isn't any dribblier than usual and no rosy cheeks or anything. He had some bits of pear, a breadstick and a little water for breakfast around 9. He hasn't had a dirty nappy since Wednesday evening which is unusual but not unheard of. Lots of wet ones though.

I'd be feeling much more laid back about this but I start back at work on Monday so if it's some sort of strike I'll be unable to lie around in warm baths playing panpipe music and bonding with him . I'm expressing anyway to get my freezer stocked up for when I'm working.

Any thoughts? Is this just way too early in the day to be worrying? Normally by now he'd be ravenous and lying down in the bedroom would have him taking a huge feed and then dropping off ...

My DS did this yesterday. Took no milk at 11am. Guzzled at his 2.30 and 6pm. Today guzzled at 11am. Babies huh. Keep you guessing.

I would say that unless he seems out of sorts (does he seem sleepier, grumpier, listless??) - wait and see what he does come his next feed time.

Thanks dal. He is grumpy. He's been a bit grotty most mornings this week but not this bad. Might it just be teeth? I thought he'd want to feed a lot if he was teething ... strange child

I think (dal21 inserts disclaimer incase she misread this) teething can sometimes mean that their gums are too sore to feed.

DS refused milk yesterday - but then ate his apple puree and chewed on the spoon like there was no tomorrow.

I wouldnt worry to much - (unless your motherly instinct says something more could be wrong) - your DS has built up plenty of fat stores now so missing one feed really isnt a huge issue.

have you tried ashton and parsons teething powder if you think thats what it is?

Yep, poor kid seems to have days when he's drolly and crabbit so i tend to shove on of them into him (or as best i can!) if in doubt. No difference though ...

Think I'll take him to bed again in a wee while. Ho hum.

Thank you
