Ok to breastfeed after local anaesthetic?

I've got a dental appt for 2 fillings in an hour and just had a thought, is it ok to breastfeed after having a local anaesthetic? I completely forgot to ask the Dentist yesterday. My DS is only 8 weeks old, so if the answer is no, I will probably have to postpone the appt. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I BFed about 4 minutes after having my ingrown toenail removed, podiatrist said no problem.

Anyone having an epidural or spinal who then BFs after the birth is in the same boat - the amount circulating is so tiny there are no problems.

Thank you for that Rose. Of course you're right. In fact I had an epidural during labour before my DD and breastfed her right away afterwards. Completely forgot about that! You just sometimes get a niggly worry, don't you? And how great is Mumsnet, I've been trying to get through to the Dentist for the past 10 minutes, but it's engaged and I get an answer on here in a couple of minutes!!

I had a wisdom tooth removed and bfed DS straight away afterwards. He was about 3 or 4 months old.

Thank you crokky, am greatly reassured now!

local anaesthetic used for episiotomy = same difference. I will be in the same boat in 2 weeks (1 small filling, baby will be 8 weeks then). I was more concerned about the mercury in the filling, I knew you can't have it in pregnancy. Just so happened the dentist visited my new mums group (to talk about baby teeth), I asked her and she said its fine to have fillings when bf.I will still tell dentist before he starts though.

The only issue might be the type of anesthetic, but with dental work it is usually absolutely fine.
I had work done when pregnant and when BFing, and it was fine.

Just double-check with the dentist though, mine did mention waiting a little while after the op before nursing, but only to be 150% safe.
