My son is 12 weeks and 16lb 2oz (nearly 10lb at birth)
He's on the 91st percentile following it beautifully. He slept through until last friday and now wakes in the night for a feed. I offered boiled water but he was livid then sank 8ozs of milk. My HV suggested hungrier baby milk which I have tried, no change. He takes less of the hungrier baby milk -could this be the problem?

What is the difference between the milks apart from one is curd and one is whey? I have looked at the nutritional information on the tin and they seem identical?

Cynics may say that there is no difference and it's all marketing, I never needed this milk with my first son was weaned at 15 weeks (guidlines where 16 weeks at the time)
The HV said she would be happy to get to 16 weeks before weaning my son but he just seems so hungry adn has done since he was tiny!! He puts on half a pound a week adn has done steadily since birth.

He was b/f until 10 weeks with 1 f/f at 10pm.

sounds like the 12 week growth spurt to me.

hungry milk does have the same calories but is harder to digest (due to having more casein in it) and is supposed to make your lo feel fuller for longer. If your lo is taking less milk now then they are also taking less calories and will be more likely to wake out of hunger. You were very lucky your lo was sleeping through already as my ds took till he was 8 months to get through without a feed

They do have growth spurts, which will probably explain the waking after previously sleeping through. If stick with it, then it should pass. I don't think weaning earlier helps - in fact it can do the opposite - as the changes in digestion are more likely to cause them to wake up in the night.

He shouldn't need weaning until 5 or 6months old, even though he is big. DS was 10lb 4oz at birth and on the 98th percentile, although has now dropped to 75th for weight, but remains on 98th for height, and I weaned him at just over 5 months old, and I think I could have waited a bit longer to tbh.

I BF until he was 1yr, but not exclusively as I introduced formula before returning to work p/t when he was 6 months old. I did give him the hungrier baby milk, and he would often down 9oz - but I must admit to being sceptical as to whether it was any different to the usual stuff.

Thanks for that.. it's great to get other peoples' feedback. Ds has had 22 ozs already today, just finished another 8oz bottle and still has 3 bottles to go!
