Baby won't settle..

Hello everyone!

Our LO is 5 weeks old today.

Has no problem feeding. Was advised to put her on SMA comfort for constipation - still feeds fine! 4oz (I feed on demand) she 99% of the time takes the whole 4oz - takes a little more effort to burp her she hates parting with it. But the last feed around 10pm she burps etc and afterwards is just so unsettled. Has infacol before each feed also. Screaming the place down, you can see she's tired also, is soothed with lower back rubs sometimes but usually has us up till 6:30 with her being unsettled... no problem during the day... but after this feed, why is it like this??

Has anyone else had this happen to them?

TIA

Its actually quite difficult to overfeed the majority of babies. And it’s very common for babies to be more hungry at night. So just feed her as much as she wants, when she wants. If she wants 6oz every couple of hours at night that’s ok. If she wants 2oz every 4 hours during the day that’s ok too. As long her weight/wees/poos are fine, look at the total feeds over 24 hours rather than on a schedule.

I had the same with older generation giving advice! My 8 month old is only every 3 hours now (it's rare we get every 4 hours with exception of night) and when she was a newborn every few weeks she went anything between 1.5 hours to 2.5 hours for feeds for growth spurts. I quickly gave up listening to others and was led by my baby (formula fed) when she was hungry. On average we were up twice a night with her being a newborn, I think we did a midnight feed, 3/4am and then 7am. Nighttime was the only time she went a bit longer between feeds but she always let us know when she was hungry. Always try food first with crying was my motto. They nappy or sleep if not hungry. Hope this helps. Ps if baby is emptying a bottle add another ounce or two going forward. So a 5oz becomes 6oz.

Ps screaming can be a sign of colic. Colic actually comes from over sensory during the day so keep the toys tv and lights at a minimum whilst young. It instantly changed our lives when We watched and changed on this suggestion. New studies are showing it's linked to sensory overload and apparently our doctors know this but don't tell us as they're opinions are based on 1970's research still. Best of luck x

Every baby is different. I'm EBF my 5 1/2 month old daughter, baby led. You could honestly tell the time from her feeding schedule. Every 2 hours throughout the day without fail. Then overnight she will go about 7 hours, sometimes longer depending on how tired she is.

I use an app called ParentLove which I find really handy. I log every feed and it tells me how many she's had in the last 24 hours. We fluctuate between 8 and 12 feeds in 24 hours, if she's on 8 feeds I know that she's going to be up more through the night. If you are bottle feeding you can log how much they took at each feed and it will help you keep track of the total over 24 hours.

I just follow her lead, if she's hungry she can eat. If she's not, then I won't try and force her just because she's 'due'.

They're clever little things. Good luck!

UPDATE.

Fed her more, still very unsettled, she's absolutely fine until it's bed time and she just will not settle...

When you say 'won't settle', do you mean in her or her crib? Are you trying to put her down and she won't settle or she won't settle being held either?

She won't settle with both unfortunately.
