EBF baby intolerance/colic?

My son is 7 weeks old, EBF and we have been struggling for a few weeks with constant crying from 8pm until some nights 1:30am. He acts hungry but comes off the boob crying or wont go near it with his arms frantically shaking in the air. This continues on and off until i finally manage to get him to sleep.

When he wakes up during the night he feeds fine and goes straight back to sleep, he also feeds fine during the day unless my let down is too fast in which case i pump to get the worst out then he is fine again.

I gave up dairy 2 weeks ago which cleared up his rash he had all over but hasnt helped this situation. I was wondering if anyone has experienced anything similair and what helped or could be the cause as I feel so bad for him. Is it colic or an intolerance?

I should mention he had his 6 week checkup yesterday and stated all this to the woman however she put it down to him just being fussy (i dont think this is the case) as he acts like he is in pain.

This has now started happening during the day, and now he has started sicking up his food straight after. He was previously putting weight on quite rapidly and always has a good latch.

Congratulations on your new baby.

There's a thing called the witching hour. Both of mine did it. They cried and fussed every evening between the hours of 7pm and 10pm. Every night from 3 weeks to around 3 months.

They just fed on and off through that time. My eldest took a dummy but even that didn't help him much.

Once I knew it was ok and nothing to worry about and just them I could cope with it better. I'd eat before it started and then just sit on the sofa with them feeding.

As yours is a bit later in the evening I'd suggest having a nap yourself in the early evening when your partner can help out and chill with baby.

Make sure you've eaten and are in a comfortable place for it. Get a good box set going and lean into it.

Seeing the update I'd pop along to your local breastfeeding group and just have the latched double checked.

It could be dairy but that should be improving after a few weeks of you being dairy free.

Could be reflux so you could look at a laid back breastfeeding position which keeps baby in a more upright position.

With DS I had to give up dairy and chocolate but that only helped a bit. We took him to a craniotomy sacral osteopath and he was remarkably improved after the first session and pretty much cured by the second. He’d had a difficult birth and things were out of place, including his stomach. Much, much happier baby for it.
