i havent heard from mine since 10 weeks and son is 12 weeks as i said. i dont even know where the clinic is to take him to get weighed. i feel really angry about this but dont feel i can reach out and have the confidence to ask for help. is it normal for the HV to just stop coming and not make contact?

I should think that at 12 weeks, you would probably be expected to go along to the clinic. The details should be in your little book or you can phone the surgery to ask

meep · 30/01/2008 09:26

newmummy I am really sorry that you are feeling angry and unhappy.
After dd was born my midwife came for about 10 days - then I saw the HV about twice at my house after that.
Has your ds had his first jabs yet? Ours were at about 2 months - and you should also get a set at 3 months and 4 months. You should get sent a letter from the NHS inviting you to bring him on for them. Maybe you can speak to the doctor/nurse about the clinic/HV?
Do you have the phone number of your HV? I know you feel angry - but can you phone her and explain how you feel - and if you are not getting the help you need, ask for another HV - hopefully she will then come round to see you and show you where the clinic is and also give you some info on mother/baby groups that you can go to. Metting other mums really helped me build up my confidence.
Congrats on your baby boy by the way

This varies so much from area to area, doesn't it? There are many areas which have no home visits beyond the first one at about 10-12 days, unless they are specifically requested or needed. I would say this is becoming the norm, now.

Very few areas would have routine home visits beyond a couple of months, but HVs shluld explain what to expect and certainly share the days and times of the clinic sessions.

You don't need to feel it's asking for 'help' to find out about this, though - it's pretty standard stuff that all mothers need to know, and people take their babies to the clinic even when they don't really need help, so it's not a big thing to ask

hi, thanks for your messages. i just looked in the red book again and there wasnt an address for the clinic. anyway i have just called the HV and asked her where the clinic is and she said she will come out again to weigh him and give me the information. thanks fo giving me the confidence to ask. i feel really crap, like i should know all these things. as i said i have pnd so my confidence is at an all time low

Mine came once, 3 days after discharge from the midwife. (baby was 2 weeks old)

She gave me her number, weighed her, red book, various leaflets and days and times for baby weighing clinic.

That was it for me.

Baby will be 4 weeks on monday and i'm assuming I wont be seeing her at home again
