hi just wondering if anyone has used the hungrier baby formula for a 12 week old? just a few people have mentioned that after using it, their baby slept through the night? does it affect their digestion?

It takes longer and is more difficult for a baby to digest. So, yes, it will affect their digestion. It is up to you to decide whether sleeping all night is more or less important than this i suppose.

I'd avoid the hungry baby formula if I were you. I've looked after babies on it and they were not sleeping through the night. Yes it does affect their digestion, not good IMO.

I don;t think there is a lot of research on this - the 'hungrier' formula has a less modified protein content than the other sort, and it is certainly marketed as a means of keeping babies going longer between feeds, but I have never seen anything that studied a bunch of babies and compared them (would be a cinch to do - just give already ff mothers unbranded formula and get them to record their babis' feeding patterns).

There is such a variation in experiences, that there isn't even anecdotal evidence to back up the claims.

I don't think there is much to say about it - 'hungry' formula and 'ordinary' formula are far closer to each other than either of them is to breastmilk, obviously. 'Hungry' baby formula is legally deemed to be as usable from birth as 'ordinary' formula....if you want to swap, then do so, but don't expect it to make a difference! 12-week-old babies are, on the whole, not designed to go through the night without feeding!

I think the theory is that as it is harder to digest it will stick around in the babies tummy for longer so they will go longer between night wakings. It must work for some as it seems quite popular. You could always replace one feed with it and see if it has any effects - constipation, wind or whatever.
