I wanted to post on here now that we have put our feeding probs behind us.
Due to a tongue tie, my DS couldn't really suck effectively when he was born. Although the tongue tie was noticed, the problems he was having weren't picked up until he had to go to SCBU with dehydration. My milk didn't really come in properly and I only had the teeniest amounts. I had to embark on a gruelling regime of feed, top up with EBM, top up with formula, express every 2-3 hours. This meant that when I wasn't feeding or pumping I was constantly worried about milk. at 2 weeks old, my DS had the tongue tie divided. He started sucking properly that same evening! I started taking motilium as well, and a couple of mornings later I woke up (FINALLY) feeling that my breasts had milk in. I still had to work hard to get the supply up, but it was suddenly a whole lot easier because my LO was helping. by 4 weeks I had enough milk to feed the boy, and now he's putting on weight at exactly the right rate (back up to the 25th centile where he started off). Pumping my milk in was one of the hardest things I ever did, especially with a new born, being sore and aching, all the hormones, no sleep etc. I'm so pleased it came right, and I wanted to encourage people in similar situations, as other people on here encouraged me when I was at my lowest. It feels like it will never get right, and I lost count of the times I was on the brink of giving up. Keep going, it really can work! Good luck xx
