**blushes slightly because suspects this is a silly question** My 9 wo DS is sleeping through the night and I have a question about supply....

Hello, my BF DS (9 wo) is sleeping through from 7 to 7. I had been giving him a dream feed around 10 or 11 at night but dropped it a couple of days ago and he still sleeps 7 to 7. Since dropping the dream feed I've had sore boobs a couple of times but sort of thought they would adjust to the new regime. BUT a friend has told me that if you don't feed at least once at night then your supply reduces and "this could be the end of BF for you!"

My response was, "Codswallop!" but now I am doubting myself. Is she right? Should I express (yuk, yuk, yukkity, yuk) last thing at night to keep my supply up? DS doesn't seem to be starving. He eats about 5 or 6 times a day and he is BIG (7 kilos) and gaining weight at a frightening rate but I just don't want to risk upsetting supply as I want to BF as long as possible. Any views? If you all respond and say, yes, you are being daft, don't worry, I will be immensely grateful.

yes you are being daft
Enjoy your uninterrupted sleep.
If engorged, you can have a warm/hot bath or shower and gently massage your breast to let them "leak" before you go to bed.

slim22 - thank you for the reassurance. DD didn't sleep through until she was one and so I hadn't come across this "problem" before.

ggglimhoho - I know I'm lucky with DS's sleeping but don't be too envious. DD came in to see me twice before 5 a.m. because of the volcano under her pillow and the mouse on the lampshade....

broguemum, a healthy baby who is gaining weight at a rate of knots and is fed responsively, and who is beyond the newborn stage and who is going through the night is ok!

There might be concern about a smaller baby, with a slow weight gain, because some very placid babies conserve energy by not waking for feeds.

In your case, you might want to seek out more tactful, better informed friends!

Sorry to crash but i think my dd is the aforementioned baby...but i am DESPERATE for sleep...now at the point where i feel i am going to do something dangerous...do you think there is any light at the end of the tunnel for me tiktok, in terms of dd getting a bit older and hopefully bigger?

Not a silly question! I asked the same one about 2 weeks ago. Enjoy your beautiful baby. xx

god just re-read my post..makes me sound like i am going to throw dd out the window or something...i just meant i'm doing silly things due to overtiredness - eg almost flooded the place last week by running the tap with plug in then going away and leaving it

Caz - babies get older, bigger and more predictable in their sleep, as a rule, yes, so of course there is hope
