Experiences of using formula for reflux BF baby?

My EBF baby has silent reflux that we’re about to start trying omeprazole for but I’m also wanting to start mixed feeding as I can’t deal with the sleepless nights on my own anymore, I’m at breaking point. I know formula can make reflux worse though. Has anyone introduced it to an EBF reflux baby and how did it go? LO is 3 months old.

Hello I mix fed my first child who had reflux but the sicky variety! I noticed that reflux increased with formula l - I think it may be because they tend to have a bigger feed from a bottle. If you do go for formula I'd recommend Hipp organic the reflux was considerably better with that. We also got infant gaviscon from the doctor for a bit. Have a look at paced bottle feeding - I never got the hang of it but it's slower so may help xx

Why are you doing sleepless nights on your own? I had a silent reflux baby and breastfed but we did shifts and I slept next door for part of the night. Mixed feeding seems like you're trying to solve the problem of shit support.

Mine both had reflux. Reflux milk didn't work. The only thing that did was Hipp Organic - not the reflux one the normal one - we were even able to stop the gaviscon with it

@Flittingaboutagain My baby and I cosleep as it’s the only way he’ll sleep at all and he’ll often only sleep with a nipple in his mouth. He comfort feeds constantly. We’ve tried shifts with my DH cosleeping and I go in the spare room but baby always cries for boob to go back to sleep. I was hoping formula might give us a longer stretch at the start of the night at least (I know doesn’t always work but lots of people have suggested I try and I’m now desperate).

Have you asked the gp for a feeding assessment? It is the NICE guidelines that for reflux in bf babies a feeding assessment should be the first step before medication but in reality it is never done. I wish I had paid for a IBCLC consultation privately rather than listening to the gp. We've now had a private tongue tie assessment at 11 months and she has a tie. HV and 2 GPs told me she didn't.
Really recommend Fox & The Moon sleep consultant on Instagram who shares lots of info on oral dysfunction and sleep.
LO had silent reflux and 2.5-5 months particularly were awful. I was lucky though that although she did take 4 hours most night to get to sleep, she would usually do one longer stretch at the start of the night which was a huge help. (Up until 4 month sleep regression when it went to 40 min wakes).I considered formula but to be honest reading lots of posts on reflux fb groups didn't make it sound much easier. Plus there was a bad shortage of certain formulas around that time 6-8 months ago. So we stuck with bf and muddled through. I an glad I did and still Bf at nearly a year but I wish I'd known then what I do now! Might have made it an easier journey.

Apologies, that was in paragraphs but it has been changed to a block of text!

I ended up mixed feeding and tbh it didn't make any difference either way. Made it a bit easier when trying out Gaviscon though (didn't help us) a friend used carabel (I think it's called) though and had good results. Only possible to mix with formula I believe?! The main issue was with a comfort feeder obviously formula is higher in calories etc and dd ended up rather chubby but hadn't affected her long term. Second the recommendation for hipp organic
