We have no water!

We’re on the second day of no mains water and have no tap water left to give 9 month old DC with meals.

I have some bottles of water that we’ve been given by the water company, or two small bottles of smart water - can I give either of these to sip with meals?

We have lots of fruit purée pouches, I guess those are quite high in water content! Or should I just continue to offer extra breastfeeds?

We've been told water should be back on this evening! Fingers crossed!

Avoid anything that says mineral water, but standard bottled water or table water should be fine.

SalviaOfficinalis · 06/10/2022 13:47

I would give the bottled water from the water company.
I know babies aren’t generally meant to have bottled/mineral water, but I don’t think a few sips for one day will matter.

I feel your pain - we have no water, either, should now be back on 'overnight' some time..

I would think the bottled water would be ok. The mineral content seems similar to tap water, and when needs must.. Hopefully it won't be for too much longer now

Ok that’s really helpful thanks for the reassurance all, I’ll use some of the bottled for today and hope it comes back on tonight!

Has the water company left a bowser (tanker) parked up anywhere that you can collect water from? If they have, then it will have been filled with mains water (although they usually recommend boiling the water you take from it just to be on the safe side.).

SmartCar · 06/10/2022 14:19

Is it the same for your neighbours? Could ask one to fill up one of the empty bottles.

Suspect the OP is in Oxfordshire where Thames water has had a massive leak that paralysed the traffic in the centre of Oxford and left several postcodes without water. They dealt with this by dropping off bottled water to a few ASDAs etc and telling people to go and get it

I wonder if you live near me, we've had no water since about 6pm last night, thankfully no babies or vulnerable in the house just unwashed teenagers!

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 06/10/2022 14:23

Surely the company should be providing you with suitable water?

If you need to buy more bottled water, my HV used to tell us that Evian was suitable for babies/least minerally; and of course is what comes out of the taps in Evian!

The source of my tap water is also bottled. It's usually the basics/own brand stuff that's about 25p for 2L -check label for it being sourced in HD8. It's also sold as "Shepley Spring".

For anyone reading this, it is possible to register as a "priority customer" with some water companies.
This means that they will deliver water to you if you are cut off (rather than potentially needing to collect and carry it).

PiePlease · 06/10/2022 15:35

Yes @deplorabelle we’re in Oxfordshire, it’s impacting so many people!

Sadly not heard of any bowsers @MrsMoastyToasty or that would have been perfect!

Also good to know @ChocHotolate thanks for mentioning about the priority register.

I’ve given DC some of the bottled water we were given but only a few sips so really no need to worry about excess salt or minerals at this stage!
