7mo waking every hour!

Please help! Where she used to wake once in the night around 3am, she is now waking nearly every hour for a snack. I'm shattered and feel like I have a newborn again. I also have a toddler so not like I can just snooze during the day.

Why is this happening and how do I stop it? 😫

my first baby slept through from a really young age so I have no idea! Thanks

I'm awake over here, in exactly the same position. He's slept a solid 10 hours through since 10 weeks old but in the last two weeks has been waking every hour or two. He's just turned 7 months. Exhausted!

Sleepyquest · 09/09/2022 07:00

@Nosleepheree breastfed or bottle fed? Hope you are still asleep now!

Breastfed, how about yourself @Sleepyquest?

I've been following online sleep plans and trying very regular naps in the day. One night he did sleep from 7pm until 4am, with a dreamfeed at 11pm. Then from 4am up every hour - slightly more manageable and hope that becomes more usual.

It's so hard to know what to do! I think my baby is waking for comfort rather than food as he stops crying as soon as we pick him up, so my thinking is I need to have a couple of rough nights of letting him cry it out, but I can't bring myself to do it

It's likely to be because she's growing faster and is hungry. See if you can get more solid food into her in the evening. Not sure if you're bottle or breast feeding but a bottle can be better for a middle of the night feed as they get more info them faster. Dd did the same as yours at 7 months and I switched to a bottle in the first waking and she then started going back to sleep for 4-5 hours instead of 1. When breastfeeding at night while sleepy she was just getting enough to settle her hunger then fell asleep again, waking again hungry am hour later.

Thanks both. I mainly breastfeed with a bit of formula. Will try some in the night times as I'm trying to cut down on breastfeeding now anyway!

What is she eating during the day? You started weaning, she is probably receiving less calories during the day.

PinkPlantCase · 11/09/2022 22:05

Probably not what you want to hear but if you do nothing to change things they will get better on their own.

You say it’s like feeding a newborn again PP is probably right that your DC is in a growth spurt and is needing more milk right now.

Do you have a partner you can share the night wakings with? That in itself may help to reduce them, it did for us at that age but it may have just been coincidence!

Sleepyquest · 12/09/2022 08:58

I have been really slack at weaning to be fair and she also seems less reluctant to feed during the day! Do I need to up my weaning game and use some formula in the night?

I agree with @PinkPlantCase - to be honest if you do nothing you'll find this is a short lived phase and probably due to a growth spurt. For what it's worth I found that if I offered plenty of contact time (carrier, contact naps etc) and plenty of BF in the day that helped night sleep. I couldn't be arsed with sleep training, bottle feeds or formula though so YMMV!
