Challenging milk allergy

I've been advised to start challenging my 5.5 month old by adding normal formal gradually to her prescription CMPA formula.

When she was newborn we used Aptamil but I've since read a lot about it being bad for allergies and digestive issues. Would it be ok to introduce a different formula for the challenge and what would people recommend? Thank you

Who has advised this? What you are describing is the milk ladder which should be done 6 months after being dairy free. Challenging would be to give a full bottle of regular formula.

The health visitor referred me to a dietician who advised this. It's just adding a single ounce of formula to their prescription bottle and then gradually increasing it if there isn't a reaction. The milk ladder comes later and involves more food.

Yes you can change the formula. In fact we were told by the Infant Feeding team at Alder Hey that if we wanted to change the formula from what he was originally on before being put onto neocate, to make the change during the challenge. So have a think about things like brands that do ready made bottles if you want that for out and about feeding. Things like that. I will say we decided to go for HIPP organic and the smell of the sicked up formula was so horrific (worse than Nutramigen and that was a smelly formula) that I wouldn’t pick that one unless you can tolerate the smell.
Unfortunately for my lo, it was clear he had cmpa by the time we got to one full bottle of standard formula so we’re back on to neocate and will be on that until we do the milk ladder at 12 months old.

Thank you and sorry to hear your little one is still struggling. I've opted for SMA this time. We will see how she gets on.
