Cold formula?

I’m looking after my niece (8wks) overnight next week. The plan is to have a bottle of Aptimil for her. Once it’s a open, it needs to live in the fridge, and the bottle refers to being used either heated or at room temperature, but makes no reference to refrigerated. Is it okay to feed her cold formula, from the fridge, or does it need heating for safety?

How big a bottle are you buying?
She would probably prefer it warmed rather than fridge cold

I wouldn’t give it fridge cold to an 8 week old - an older baby I don’t think it would matter. An 8 week old will have a fairly big feed that takes a while to drink, if it’s fridge cold I imagine it could give them a belly ache - I’m sure it would give me one 😄 But I don’t think it’s a safety concern as such. Just pour into a bottle and warm slightly in a bowl of hot water.

It'd be safe cold, but I dont think the baby will like it, just tip it into a sterilised bottle, then sit the bottle in really hot water for a few min, gently shake and test the temp before the feed

Add it to the bottle you will feed her from and then warm that before a feed. Obviously checking the temperature before the feed/making sure no hot water on the bottle.
Cold won't harm her but I can't imagine it would be pleasant for her either and a well fed baby is a happy baby.

On first opening I pour the rooms temperature milk into the sterilised bottle. DS is used to this but other babies may prefer it a little warmer. If I’m giving him milk from one of the bigger bottles and it’s been in the fridge, I just put the milk into the sterilised bottle and stand that in a bowl. Then I add some boiling water, leave it a few minutes to warm, give it a good shake and go!

Brilliant - thanks all. Mine was mostly BF and it was ten years ago, so it’s all a bit cloudy with time now! I don’t want to get it wrong for her!
