Weaning for CMPA baby

I wondered if anyone has any advice or recipe ideas for weaning a CMPA baby. Other than puréed veggies I'm really not sure what else she can have. A lot of the baby porridge seems to have milk powder in it. Any ideas would be great.

What age is she?
At 6 months there are more options than there would be at a younger age

I made mine purees which I gradually laced with chicken, lamb, etc.

By the time he was 8 months he was eating pasta with lamb sauce!

I had some dietician help with weaning my son with CMPA.

We started at 4 months due to some other issues so depending on the age this might help or not.

General advice was to start with breakfast as you're always at home and to keep that meal consistent. Then do tea as again you're at home. Leave lunch until last.

For breakfast we started with baby rice mixed with his formula. If your baby is over 6 months I'd suggest weetabix with CMPA formula. From 12 months you can use soya milk. I think oat milk can be used before 12 months but not sure. We'd also do a slice of toast with dairy free butter and marmite. Dietician loved marmite, luckily so does DH and the kids (I can't stand the stuff lol)

To start with for other meals we used a variety of Ella's kitchen and sainsburys pouches. Quite a few of those are dairy free. They were great for us.

We'd also do coconut yoghurt mixed with fruit purée a lot.

Out and about it was either pouch or peanut butter or humous sandwiches. Both peanut butter and humous are great for weaning CMPA. There's lots of evidence now to suggest early and often introduction of peanut reduces incidence of peanut allergy.

As he got older we just gave him small bits of our food. We're a dairy free family in general now so that helps.

Thank you for replying guys. She is only 5 months so we haven't started yet but getting close.

We will have to try the milk ladder at some point too but I want to feel confident with weaning first.

Usually the milk ladder starts 8-12 months after diagnosis.

We've tried it a few times over the years, but DS still reacts even at 5 so have abandoned trying now.

It can be daunting but there is lots she can have.

Spag Bol
Toast with a spread like mashed avocado
Banana-Cado
Bagel with Violife Cream Cheese and some fruit as a finger food
Make some sweet potato wedges
Salmon, Pea & Broccoli

The Caroline Walker Trust has some good suggestions on first tastes. Have a look through and see which ones she'd be ok with, the cubes of cheese would probably be out Wink

My baby is 5 months old, his stools have constantly been watery, with a bit of mucus and smelling very strong like vinegar since newborn. We changed his milk a lot so I was told not to change again, but I have. I’ve started him on hypoallergenic milk to see if it stops. That is the only symptom he has .The problem is he will have to start weaning him soon so I wont know if the allergy is there if he will be fed food. Wonder is it ok to delay spoon a bit? And I wonder if they eventually grow out of diary allergy?

PritiPatelsMaker · 29/08/2022 09:01

He may grow out of his allergy @Kellie22 or he may not. I had it as a baby and child and then it came back in my 40s

Are you getting the milk on prescription?

Mariokartedoff · 29/08/2022 09:04

My eldest grew out of his. So it does happen.

Kellie22 · 29/08/2022 09:12

@PritiPatelsMaker That’s interesting. I’m just worried about cereal etc can I put his milk in as this milk is made cold.
No I’ve just bought a tub of the Nutramigen yesterday, I literally only started him this morning, so maybe I can get it on prescription. I just don’t know if I’m doing the right thing starting him on it so late 😕

Kellie22 · 29/08/2022 09:13

@Mariokartedoff Thats good to know. Can I ask what the symptoms were? As my son literally only has one symptom so there not sure if it even is an allergy

smellycat77 · 29/08/2022 09:40

@Kellie22 did you get a prescription for the Nutramigen?

Kellie22 · 29/08/2022 10:41

@smellycat77 no boots just ordered in for me. I will go to the GP and get a prescription
