Refrigerated Kendamil

We have fed our 4 month old Kendamil formula since birth and have always pre-made bottles to store in the fridge for 24 hours, I have just found out that it isn’t recommended to store Kendamil in the fridge and to make bottles as and when baby needs feeding. She has been completely fine with drinking her milk and we have never had an issues but now I feel like a terrible mum! Should l change to making her bottles before she is due a feed? Does anyone else pre-make Kendamil bottles to put in the fridge? I thought all formula was safe to store in the fridge!

Did you never read the tub?
It's best to make up as required but you can make up with hot water over 70⁰C and store in the main part of the fridge for no more than 24 hours.

Its not advised to make in advance as powdered formula can contain bacteria that can cause illness in your baby. Its been advised to make up as you need them for quite a few years now.

I thought it was a very well known and advertised thing that you shouldn't make bottles in advance. Obviously stop doing it now that you know, and check you're doing everything else as professionals advise

I boil the kettle to make the bottles up then put them in the fridge, I’m a first time mum and the midwife said formula can be stored for 24 hours in the fridge and breast milk can be stored for 3 days so I’ve always followed that! Thank you

Breast milk can last for more than 3 days in the fridge (up to 8 days depending on the temperature of your fridge)

Perfect, thank you so much for your help!

We've never used Kendamil specifically but with both kids we've pre-made formula bottles and kept in the fridge for up to 24hrs. Neither of my two ever had a stomach bug whilst being formula-fed. On the NHS website where it says all about bottle feeding, it does recommend feeds are made as and when they are needed, but if you scroll down to the bit about travel/transporting formula, it is even there accepted that pre-made formula can be refrigerated for up to 24hrs.

But they also recommend you let the kettle cool for 30 mins then making and cooling down the bottle, my baby feeds at irregular times so it’s unrealistic for me to let her scream hungry for nearly an hour while I make a bottle every time

As pp says following the exact NHS advice is impractical for most. The way you are doing it is low risk and should be fine as long as they are cooled quickly. Likewise perfect prep is not officially recommended but loads of people including me use it without problems. Imitating the perfect prep method with a thermos of hot water and one of cool water is another option.
