Baby not reacting well to ready to feed when out-- help please!

My 5 month old has always had mild reflux. He is always content when it comes out, and his weight is doing fine, the little chunk. It has got better in the last few weeks too. He has Hipp organic milk, usually made by the perfect prep machine.

Ive noticed that when we are out, if I use the hipp ready feed, his reflux is worse. This I can cope with but the smell is atrocious- of actual vomit, whereas the posetting he normally gets is odourless or mild milk smell. I take it the ready feed doesn't agree with him?

I really want to avoid packing 2 flasks for when we are out. Is it best to try an alternative ready feed for when we are out? And stick to the hipp for when at home?

Thoughts please? I am just sick of the smell when we are out for the day for longer than 2hrs where a normal bottle wouldn't suffice.

They don’t recommend mixing but our HV advised we could try Hipp ready to feed as at the time Kendamil didn’t do one and they were very similar milks. So you could try the Kendamil. It’s more about how they’re made though and I suspect you’ll find the same.

We do just take 2 500ml flasks out with us or if it’s going to be longer than about 5 hours we need the boiling water in a 1l flask so it stays hot enough to sterilise the formula powder. It’s not too bad, we did 14 days in Disney parks a few months ago. He’ll also start cutting down bottles soon, we’ve just turned 8 months and she has 4 but could skip the lunch bottle in all honesty!

We actually did try normal kendamil powder at the start but the reflux was stinky again haha.

Slightly different for us as my lo has cmpa but we had to do the milk challenge recently and decided to use Hipp Organic as that’s what he was on before needed the special formula. He failed the challenge so has to go back onto Neocate but when we did it OH MY those Hipp Organic ready mades made me physically want to be sick and this is coming from someone who had to feed their baby Nutramigen formula which smells pretty awful.
I don’t remember them smelling this bad when he was born but this time round it was horrific. Like you we found there was less sick with the powder and it seemed like full feeds were coming up with the ready mades and to me it was like rotten fish. my mum and partner couldn’t stand the smell either. So yeah it’s definitely not just you.
I wonder if the ready mades are too rich as I think they do contain cream? Maybe that causes them to be sick more.
Could you invest in a Nuby Rapid cool flask so you can continue to use the powder? They’re amazing. Add the formula and boiling water straight into one and it cools the formula down to drinking temperature in minutes. We’ve found they’re a life saver for us when out and about as you can’t buy ready mades of the prescription formula for milk allergies.

Hi. Glad to know im not the only one.
I am looking into the Nuby but what if you are out for the day, my flask of boiling water will be enough for 2 feeds and you can get boiling water from cafes these days, but how many times can you use the nuby, from a steriliser perspective? I read somewhere you can rinse the lid with boiling water?

It’s one use unless you do what others do and say for example you’re making a 5 ounce bottle, add 1 oz of boiling water to the formula in the bottle to kill any bacteria and then add boiling water to the nuby to rapid cool and top up to 5 ounces with the Nuby water. It will make it slightly warmer because of that initial boiling ounce but you can either leave it to cool a little longer once made or some babies don’t mind it warmer. That way the rapid cool flask is indefinitely sterile as it only has boiling water added to it. You’d still have to wait the 3 hours for it to cool though before it can work again.
