Cow and gate comfort, milk and reflux meds

Ds is 5 months and is breastfed but has one formula feed a day, he has bad reflux and is being seen by a Gastro consultant who has put him on ranitidine and motilium (doperidone). He has told me to introduce solids as this can help. I have just read on someone post about cow and gate comfort milk or something called stay down, does anyone know how these work and if it would be ok to use these at the same time as the reflux med.
I'm sad to do it but I'd like to move the lunch time feed to a formula feed, I am sooo worn down by his reflux, We've had so many problems with BF such a too fast let down, not enough milk so fed every hour to increase, virtually impossible to feed at times as reflux was bad so every feed was back arching and screaming but i really wanted to BF so was determined to make it work and have persevered and managed to get to 5 and half months of just breatsfeeding but now need a bit of a break, also it is so hard to feed him out sometimes due to the pulling off or covering me in puke due to the reflux. Sorry this post seems to have got a bit long but just wanted to know how these stay down milks work and if it is ok with reflux meds.

I know how you feel. Ds is 10 weeks old and has very bad reflux (takes after his Dad!). He is very sick after most feeds, and therefore needs to feed again very soon after. Also arches back and keeps pulling off the breast. We started on Ranitidine yesterday, so we are keeping our fingers crossed that this will help the discomfort. We have also been using infant gaviscone to try and keep the milk down, but it hasn't done a lot of good. Yesterday the Dr prescribed Cow and Gate Carrowbel. Ds hated it, so we are now back to the drawing board. However, it may be worth you trying, as it also adds calories and may reduce the amount of feeding you need to give. It can be used with ranitidine. Not sure about Doperdine. If anyone else has any advice on how to manage reflux it would be greatfully received!!

there's a way to swaddle/wrap your baby to hold hands down by their sides. its called the vancouver method i think - you put the blanket/sheet under them, and wrap the sides over the arm, then tuck the spare sheet underneath their body, holding arms down. found it really calmed LO down when feeding.

the comfort milk is really good fo my LO as anything else makes him sicky and/or constipated. don't know about meds though, sorry.

hope tyhis makes sense

I have a DD 8 weeks old and has a reflux. Does anyone know if domperidone and ranitidine are ok with C&G anti reflux if not which one should i try?? Is it worth just simply trying a different brand? GP said to change formula hasn't specified witch one!! DD not gaining enough weight, arching back, nasally, bringing up digested milk and crying a lot! I have her on C&G infant at the moment so obvious choice is to stick with C&G. She's been doing this for four months now feeling tired and exhausted!! We're waiting for an appointment from pead. Also GP wants a urine sample to send off and gave me this bag thing to stick to her lady bottom! Only problem is the wee comes out in her nappy and seems to bypass the bag! (when I put it on I'm sure it's on right) any ideas? sorry about the rambling I've got lots of questions.
Please help! :/

It's not the comfort milk. It's the Staydown/Reflux milk. All of the formula companies now make a reflux formula.

Be aware that they are made up with chilled water rather than 70 degree plus water so the risk of bacterial contamination is far higher.

I would suggest talking to your HCP about a formula thickener you can use with a standard first milk rather than take the risk.

Sorry forgot to say we've started on gaviscon infant it was ok for a few days then back to drawing board.
I was only looking at the anti reflux milks as I'm pretty sure colic isn't her issue! It's just quite expensive trying lots of different reflux milks and normal milks to find the right one, also there are so many on the market! Shes just in pain most of the day and only seems content when shes asleep!! Didn't know about the water thing!! Thank you

My dd is 22 weeks and has been prescribed ranitadine for reflux. We also use cow & gate reflux formula (we alternate with breast feeds) and it has made such a difference. She's a very happy baby Smile
