Can I give my 10 month old toddler formula?

My baby has Kendamil stage 2 formula but I can't find any in any of the 3 supermarkets close by! Would it be ok to give him toddler formula? Unfortunately, I've tried other branded formulas and he's not taken well to them. He'll be 1 end of next month. Is the toddler formula from 12months going to be harmful to him?

I would give him stage 1 same brand.

MagneticRubberDucks · 05/08/2022 09:31

It will be absolutely fine for him.

my DS was on a special toddler formula at that age but I had to switch him between a couple of different brands as they were hard to get hold of and it was fine.
If you are worried go and ask the pharmacist to recommend a brand that is close to the Kendamil.

RockAndRollerskate · 05/08/2022 09:31

same as PP, you can just give stage one

Fleur405 · 05/08/2022 09:32

I highly doubt it will be harmful to him. It will obviously not be the optimum level of nutrients and calories for him but if it’s only for a few days I’m sure it will be fine - you can get kendamil from their website and it arrives quickly. We use the subscription so we never have to worry about running out!

you can also check the difference in ingredients/nutrition information on their website to make sure.

SalviaOfficinalis · 05/08/2022 09:34

It won’t be harmful but it might not have the same nutrition as proper baby formula.

Stage 1 kendamil would be better. Or have you tried Hipp Organic?

Carrieonmywaywardsun · 05/08/2022 09:34

It's better to go for the stage below them than the stage above. So yes it should be fine

concernedguineapig · 05/08/2022 09:36

Don't give him the stage up! Give him
The stage one which is suitable from birth to 12 months.

Taybz · 05/08/2022 09:40

This is the 1st time I've run out unexpectedly - accidentally put an empty tin the cupboard thinking it had formula in it - baby brain 😬 so, would the formula 1 stage down have more nutrients than the one up? The Kendamil stage one is recommended until 6months.

OP posts:
Taybz · 05/08/2022 09:41

@concernedguineapig there isn't one until 12 months

OP posts:
concernedguineapig · 05/08/2022 09:42

Maybe I'm misunderstanding? What do you mean by there isn't one until 12 months?

Taybz · 05/08/2022 09:42

@Fleur405 i didn't know they do a subscription. That's an excellent idea as it's often quite hard to find Kendamil where we live.

OP posts:
Taybz · 05/08/2022 09:43

@concernedguineapig so stage one is recommended 0-6 months, stage 2: 6-12 months and stage 3: 12-36 months

OP posts:
Fleur405 · 05/08/2022 09:44

If you can get a tin of stage 1 easily then yes, that would be better.

SalviaOfficinalis · 05/08/2022 09:45

Don’t worry OP, it’s just a marketing ploy - stage 1 will be fine until 12 months.
Stage 3 is not needed at all as they can have normal whole milk after 12 months.

concernedguineapig · 05/08/2022 09:47

Oh yes I know that, but my advice still stands. Give him the stage 1 rather than the stage 3.

NannyR · 05/08/2022 09:47

Stage one is your best option, it's nutritionally almost the same as follow on milk, they are called different names for marketing purposes. Not sure about kendamil, but other brands of toddler milk add a sweet vanilla taste to the formula, this might make switching back to ordinary formula difficult if she decided she prefers it!

concernedguineapig · 05/08/2022 09:47

First stage milk is recommended until 12 months. The follow on milks only exist so they can advertise them legally.

Taybz · 05/08/2022 09:48

I'm in the supermarket now and just found stage 1 so will get that. Thanks for your suggestions - feel less stressed now. I'm a new mum, in case you haven't guessed 😅

Tay lots of us were once new mums, we get it.
Enjoy the rest of your day.

concernedguineapig · 05/08/2022 10:09

Excellent, glad you're sorted.

Fleur405 · 05/08/2022 10:32

Taybz · 05/08/2022 09:43

@concernedguineapig so stage one is recommended 0-6 months, stage 2: 6-12 months and stage 3: 12-36 months

When you sign up for a subscription for stage 1 they ask you if you want to keep on it for 12 months or switch to stage 2 at 6 months. As others have said companies can’t advertise formula for newborns so follow on milk was invented for marketing purposes and is actually entirely unnecessary.

Sorry, I misread your original post and thought you had toddler milk at home for another child. Toddler milk also a thing that isn’t really necessary!
