WHEN DO BABIES STOP HAVING A BOTTLE???

Hi all,
Should I be concerned that my 18 month old has refused/stopped having a bottle on numerous occasions. Everything is soooo different from how it was 20+years ago. You see i already have 2 adult children, 25 and 22 and this baby was a complete shock. I was 45 (yes yes I know, crazy/mental/starting all over again). Im not gonna lie I have found the experience this time round extremely difficult, and find myself struggling at least once a week, as I am not as young/youthful or energetic as I was.
I would not change a single minute of being a mum again, I am just really looking for a lil advice (not on being a mum) just on the new changes of it all.

Thanks mummies. Xxx

It's advised to stop bottles at 12months as they aren't great for teeth, and switch to sippy or open cups.

Your baby should be eating a lot more proper food now so will not need much milk - probably just a sippy cup in the morning and before bed.

Many people stop at
1 year, or even as early as 6 months in favour of cup. I also know a lot of mums who 2.5 year olds still have bottles, so don't worry, do what works for you! ☺️

I think if your child is showing signs of not wanting a bottle anymore it's a great opportunity to move to a sippee cup or a 360 cup, one of mine liked the first, and the other the second.

They used to have them with the lid on for milk, and without the lid on with water (but only about half full so less spills) so both are great training cups and can move up the stages with them, it's just the child's preference

Don’t really have any advice but just wanted to say, me too! Mine are 22,23 and 6 months (planned!)
everything is so different, it’s almost like being a first time mum again 😂

Thank you @Applecrumble24 it is definitely like being a first time mum again thats for sure. But tbh the 1st time round I was a natural lol. Xxx

@Antigonesaunt @BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz @MarigoldMoonStone @miltonj, my boy has all the cups available out there he has had a training cup since bout 9months old, I am aware that its because he is eating adult/human food more often and regularly but up until last week he would still have at least 3 bottles in a day.
With the older 2 it was well different infact I reckon it was a whole lot easier, if they were having a full 9oz bottle start to wean them or get them on solids as soon as. It feels like the blind leading the blind totally out of sorts regarding this stuff, so just wanted a bit of new motherly info and tips tbf. Xxx
I appreciate any advice, guidance, tips, hacks that will give help me feel like I'm not failing. Xxx

Just to add at 18mo it's quite likely they're getting enough dairy from cheese/yoghurt etc so don't worry if the actual milk intake goes down. Many kids will only drink water from a cup, not milk, as it's an association thing.

TheTeddyBears · 02/08/2022 16:28

I stopped giving it not long after they turned one and started giving them a sippy cup of milk before bed. I think that's the advice given out now so just followed it.

BruceWaynettaSlob · 02/08/2022 16:44

The NHS guidance is they shouldn't have a bottle after 12 months. Check
