Ebf - Soya and dairy free - what to eat

ReySky · 27/07/2022 14:11

I'm eliminating soya and dairy from my diet at the suggestion of Health Visitor as ebf 4 week old baby is very unsettled and has had green bits in nappies. Does anyone have any suggestions of quick easy snacks / meals please? Have toddler also so not much free time for preparation and cooking and am feeling a bit overwhelmed after discovering soya is in bread etc. Thank you so much.

Some breads are soya free, if you shop online you can read the ingredients and favourite the brands that are safe. When my DC were newborn I had the supermarket app on my phone so could do the online shop one handed while feeding/while DC1 was watching cbeebies.

Baked potato with baked beans is easy, filling and cheap. Violife grated cheese is ok as far as DF cheeses go.

Batch cook bolognaise sauce or chili then freeze in portions so easy to reheat and add pasta.

There are loads of free from products these days although they are expensive. Oatly oat milk is good, I actually prefer it to cow milk now.

For snacks, any fresh fruit, rice cakes, breadsticks with houmous, scrambled or hard boiled egg, courgette muffins.

The Allergy Free Baby & Toddler Cookbook was good for ideas when my DC were little

I’m currently dairy soya and egg free atm for ebf my 4 month old.

oat milk is best alternative for milk for tea and coffee barista version.

i have

breakfast - oats with almond or oat milk and oat yoghurt fruit and honey or weetabix almond milk and banana

lunch/tea - tuna with vegan Mayo, chicken, salmon, prawns, burgers etc with wraps (they’re usually fine), most rolls are fine too just not brioche that’s made with milk, baked potato or sweet potato.
the other day I made bolognaise that was all fine as was dried spaghetti.

oat chocolate is pretty nice 😊

Today I've had muesli with almond milk for breakfast, bacon butty for lunch and 3 bean chilli for tea with rice. I may have also eaten some crisps, some peanuts a couple of biscuits and some fruit.

It's hard when you first start having to eliminate but you'll m soon get used to reading labels and thinking of things you can have Flowers

What crisps and biscuits are you finding that are milk and soya free?? Every crisp packed I’ve looked at has both!

Its so difficult to find bread, especially the pre sliced packaged type. Tesco super seeded farmhouse is a staple in our house. Flora original is the best butter replacement in terms of taste in my opinion. I eat lots of tuna, salmon, chicken, potatoes, salad, egg mayo (just check the mayo), Almond milk, fruit, veggies, tomato based pasta etc. The best chocolate subs are butterm!lk and happi in my opinion. I think bourbons are OK for a pp who asked about biscuits.

I was just going to say bourbons Wink

These crisps are the ones I was eating but I'm ok with may contain.
