Hi everyone
Can enyone out there advise me on a formula to try for a 4mth old who is constantly bringing up milk after a feed. I have even tried the easy digest milk which he doesn't really like (which i can't blame him for its so thick and looks like thick sick) it makes no difference whatsoever. It's driving me mad we are both constantly covered in sick !!

PLEASE HELP

how long has he been like this? Is it projectile? Have you seen gp

kazzab · 17/01/2008 14:38

He has been like it since about 2mths. Its not really projectile he is sick about 1oz straight after his feed then is just sick various amounts until his next feed. He is putting on weight and doesn't seem to bother him at all so I have'nt seen the GP yet.

i would go.. just to be on safe side. Was going to suggest reflux but if it doesnt bother him .. My ds had severe reflux from couple days old, would scream and scream all day, constantly windy, wouldnt sleep but did put weight on fine, was on medication till 1 yr old.

Have you considerd allergies/intolerances? Does he have any other symptoms? If not maybe just sicky baby?

bubblagirl · 17/01/2008 14:55

h my ds did this alot and was prescribed gaviscon

what it was, was that he was tring to drink to much to quick and his belly just wasnt really big enough for the amount he felt he wanted

but i found burping after each ounce made a difference and sitting up for 10 mins after each feed it did as he got that much bigger settle as his feed amount stayed the same but he could obviously handle it

but if tried to make smaller bottles always wanted more and then was sick

Have you thought about weaning him? I know official advice is 6-months but this has only recently changed and a lot of babies are weaned earlier. We had this problem with my first baby, she was very sicky and was waking screaming at night in pain as I think the sick was starting to burn her inside, so we weaned her and she got better very quickly.

We only gave her pureed fruit and veg/baby rice until she was 6 months.

Worth discussing with your hv?

i also weaned ds very early ang it def helped my ds. His sickness was still severe but def helped it. Baby rice etc is heavier than milk and more likely to stay down. Obv down to you as guidlines always seem to change re weaning. When my sis had ds1 was 4 months, when she had dd it was 6 months etc etc

Thanks for all the advice. I had thought of going to the GP but a lot of people told me that as long as they are putting on weight and not to bothered by it all the GP wont do much. I have started to wean him as he is a big baby he has fruit/veg in morn and a bit of rice tea time but not seen too much change yet. I have not noticed any other symptoms but he has been very snuffly and had a spell in hosp with bronchits(sorry not sure how its spelt)so the poor thing is not having much fun at moment. Can anyone with a sicky baby suggest a formula to try

Hi, i have very sicky DD, now nearly 6 months. she was bf till about 14 weeks now on formula. I went to GP who prescribed gaviscon (didnt make a difference) Went back to GP now she is on Ranitidine (which doesnt seem to work either but she has only had it for a week)GP suggested i weighed her that week and go back in two weeks, to weigh again. She has always put on weight fine and is still doing so and GP said if she wasnt she would have referred her by now but as she is fine she would like to try other things first. I too am getting fed up of sick, it sometimes does bother her when she is sick 2-3 hours after feed, im not suprized it must taste horrible. The best milk i have found is comfort milk ( its a little thicker) but doesnt seem to come up as bad as some of the others, especially when its a couple of hours later, it seems to be water (like the milk bit has been digested already). Also have you tried a stay down milk these are available on prescription or can be bought from chemists i think! I have not tried this as DD needs comfort milk to hep her poo! I would go to doctors though especially if weaning is making no difference.

Try Enfamil AR, from the pharmacy, or SMA Staydown, from Boots ( I have found Enfamil better)
